I wrote this listening to the Inception soundtrack. And while feeling very guilty for not having updated for a ridiculous amount of months. D:

I sat up, groggily. My head hurt like a bitch, and so did my wrist. Above me, white clouds floated silently past in a small breeze. I blinked. I remembered vaguely what had happened to me and the last thing I expected to see were those white clouds, watching me as they swirled in the wind. Attempting to stand up caused pain to course through my wrist, making me gasp in shock. The clouds seemed to float past a little more erratically. I tried again, being careful not to use my right wrist. Standing up straight gave me intense vertigo, and I leaned over and vomited. After wiping my mouth off, I looked around me. Immense blue sky stretched all around me, and long, green blades of grass rippled in the soft breeze. The sun was blocked by a large cloud, shading the world a little darker. However, very far in the distance, what seemed to be a city rose up into the expansive blue, giving a jagged grey edge to the horizon.

I looked around to make sure I had not left anything on the ground around me, and noticed at once what I was wearing. The long, teal cotton dress reached just to my ankles, with a slender gold belt wrapped loosely around my waist. It was almost like a fairy tale, but the world was tinted with an air of surrealism. I couldn't possibly be awake, and the thought frightened me. I picked up the hem and began to walk swiftly towards the city, hoping that was where I needed to go. Far above, the clouds darkened and began to cover the bright sky.

It seemed like no time had passed between when I thought about heading to the city in the distance and when I stood on the outskirts of it. A wind blew from the heart of the town, throwing my hair back and causing my dress to ripple animatedly. It was becoming increasingly obvious the city itself didn't want me to go any farther. But instinctively, I knew I had to. The towers loomed menacingly above me, and I became aware that the city was vacant. It seemed like no one had lived here in a very long time. I walked past block after block of empty buildings and became increasingly nervous. I was walking towards who knows what, and the idiom 'sheep led to slaughter' popped into my head. The winds blew harder and thunder cracked nearby, scaring me.

I began running as fast as possible, giving in to the strange pull towards the heart of the city. Catching a glimpse of my reflection as I ran, I startled myself with my deathly paleness. Soon, a monolithic building rose up to meet me, and I stopped in front of it. It was solid black marble, except for the outline of what I assumed to be a door, and emanated cold pulses of energy. I turned and looked around noticing how all the roads seemed to lead to this place. Facing the building again, I pressed against the door. I hoped- rather stupidly- that it would move like it did in the movies I had seen.
