You and Hermione often do a lot of things together while Harry and Ron were practicing for the upcoming quidditch matches, or stuck in their never ending detentions which the two of you manage to avoid.
Most of the time, you study in the library with tinkering laughter, and have to constantly be told to quiet down by the librarian, Irma Pince.
Sometimes the both of you snuck into the Ravenclaw common room to try and find Luna, but she never was there.
Today is not anything unusual as you and Hermione head for the owlery, getting ready to deliver a birthday card bewitched with magic for your mother.
While not being a wizard herself, she certainly had been full of joy when you had received your Hogwarts letter.
Hermione seems awfully quiet as the two of you make your way up the stairs, gripping tightly onto the rails in the cooler weather.
"Are you okay Hermione?" You ask quietly as you reach the top, not looking for any owl in particular for preference.
You take a piece of string from the inside of your robe, waiting for her answer.
Her silence moves you to the conclusion that she isn't okay in the present moment. Immediately your face takes on a frown, worrying about her.
Normally, she happens to be all sunshine and smiles, laughter and talking never drowning her.
"What's wrong?" You ask again, cautiously, and hope not to be perceived as pushy by her sullen gaze.
"Oh y/n, it's... well, it's Ron again."
"Are you two fighting again?" Hermione gives a nod, staring down at her feet, not wanting to look at you.
He's such a git, you shake your head, instantly becoming angry. Angry that you're unable to keep this from happening. The two of them constantly argue, and it takes a very heavy toll on her each time.
"What happened this time?" You pry, needing to know if you'll have to talk with Ron. Normally, their fights aren't so bad, small tender arguments, but Hermione always takes them to heart, and it hurts the pair of you. Every piece of you writhes when she's in pain. You know Hermione can take care of herself, but you want to be there with her. Hell, you would bulldoze everyone out of her way if it guaranteed her safety, and happiness.
"I'd rather not talk about it right now, if that's alright? He was a bit explosive, he has the emotional range of a teaspoon but you know that." Her words bring a small smile to her face, and you feel yourself lighten with it.
"Hopefully everything will sort itself out. You two should talk instead of ignoring each other, you know that it only makes it worse." You start as an owl holds it's leg out for to attach the package and the letter.
"Besides, if worse comes to worse you could easily just slip him some love potion." Of course you were only joking, but when it brought a smile again, you feel accomplished as her laughter echoes.
"I'm only kidding Hermione, but if it does get worse you better bet that I'll be probably hexing his ginger ass into next year." She chuckles again, the sound rather musical to your ears.
"How do you always know what to say, y/n?" She steps forward, the wind blowing her curls back, no longer hiding her face.
"I guess it's just my calling." You shrug your shoulders, taking a soft look at the owl.
"You would be brilliant as a relationship counsellor or something," she gives a small hum and you shake your head.
"Funny enough, I've never even been in a relationship, I guess I'm good at giving advice." You shrug, and her jaw drops, "Don't tell me you're joking."
