*The Next Day*

"Matty, I want to go to the park! Taylor looks like she needs a walk." Mae said, playing with Taylor's ears.

Matt laughed at her. "Taylor always looks like she needs a walk with you. Sometimes, it seems like you're only here to see the dog, not me."

Mae smiled, innocently. "Oh, does it? Wow." But, she couldn't help but laugh in the midst of saying it.

Matt rolled his eyes at her, playfully. "Well, what are you waiting for? Don't you want to walk Taylor?"

Mae squealed and put the pink leach she bought for Taylor on her. Matt grabbed her hand, interlocking fingers with him. She leaned up and kissed him softly. "I love you."

"I love you too, Mae." Matt said, leading her out the door.

* * *

Mae laughed at Matt as they walked into the park. Mae let Taylor roam free and sat on the swing next to Matt, still holding his hand. "Look at Taylor go. She's so cute."

Matt chuckled. "Yeah, she's alright."

Mae rolled her eyes. "Ya' know ya' love her, Matty. Admitting it to yourself is the first step."

Matt thought about Mackenzie for a second. You know you love her, Matt. The first words Brett had said to him, too. Except he wasn't talking about Taylor. "Yeah, I know."

The answer was more about Mackenzie, even though he couldn't tell Mae that. He cared about Mae, and he didn't want to hurt her. Especially the way he hurt Mackenzie. He regretted it the first time, damn straight he wouldn't do it again. Mae giggled. "- Matty, ya' didn't forget did ya'?"

Matt had blanked out  for the beginning of whatever she was saying. "Huh?"

She smacked his chest hard. "I was talking about our anniversary. Ya' know, it's almost been five months."

Matt nodded. "How could I forget the day I met the biggest pain in my a- I mean, my beautiful girlfriend." Matt joked.

Mae rolled her eyes. "Ya' better watch it there, Matt."

Matt smiled at her. "Don't worry, I have something planned for us."

Mae gave him a look. "If you're talkin' 'bout what I think you're talkin' 'bout, Imma cut your-"

Matt's eyes got wide. "I'm not!"

Mae smiled. "Good."

*Tomorrow*

Mackenzie shivered at the feel of the gel the doctor was spreading on her stomach. "Just stay still. This will be over in a minute. I just want to check the baby's heartbeat and make sure everything’s okay in there."

Mackenzie looked over at Jamie, who was smiling at her. But this wasn't Jamie's baby. He knew that, she knew that. It felt wrong with Jamie, who was once her best friend, sitting there, claiming another man's baby.

The doctor looked at her curiously. He moved the thingy-magiger from one side to another. The doctor looked surprised, when he looked at Mackenzie and said, "There are two heart beats."

"You mean mine and the baby's, right?" Mackenzie demanded, scared.

"Well, no. I believe there are two babies in you." He pointed at the screen. "You see that?" Mackenzie nodded. "And the one next to it?" Mackenzie nodded once more. "Those are babies. Both of them."

Mackenzie's jaw dropped, and she looked at Jamie. Jamie looked just as surprised. She couldn't help but think if Matt were here, he wouldn't be silent. He would be demanding that the doctor was lying. He would keep saying, 'Tell me you're joking!' Then the doctor would shake his head and Matt would sit there angry. 'Stupid egg.' He'd say. 'Why'd you have to split into two babies? Wasn't one good enough for you?'
