The plan formed- slowly- in my mind, and to some extent, it was a good one. Not exactly foolproof, but just right to hit the mark it seemed. I pulled my most trustworthy friend out of the group as the sun fell-- Theseus. Ironic, it was, how such mortal enemies could become so close suddenly.

"Theseus. We need to talk," I said as I led him into the forest. Confused as he was, he made no indication that he was worried at the fact I was leading him away to talk alone in a dark forest.

"About what?" he asked calmly. I found a quiet spot by a rock, and I sat down on it, worry nagging at the inside of me. Now that we had dodged the minor obstacle of the fire, we needed to figure out what to do next with ourselves.

"What are we going to do?" I asked sadly, lost in my own thoughts.

"Excuse me?" he asked.

"Oh right, you can't read my mind," I said, winking. "Anyway, what I meant by that was, we need to figure out what to do with ourselves out here in the wilderness. We can't get caught. We'll survive in the wild! We'll hide. Whatever it takes. After all we've been through, I won't let some perverted king's sick mind mess it up!" I was angered.

"Oh. You're asking how we survive out here while avoiding getting caught and killed?"

"Yes." I could not see his face in the shadowy surroundings, but I could tell he was thinking.

"You really think we can stay hidden form them? This is their island. They'd know it better than we would. If we don't get caught in tomorrow, it would be a miracle. I really don't know what you're hoping for, but unless you have brilliant luck, I doubt it will work,' he said. Ouch.

"Theseus, I know its crazy. But we can do it. We must. I can't bear to watch all these people put to death! Theseus, you know what I mean, don't you? We can't just submit like weaklings, and let them kill us all! Its not fair! We're so young, and brave! Why us?" I cried, thinking in particular of Paris and the youngest members.

My keen ears picked up on Theseus shifting his weight uncomfortably on the leaf-strewn ground. "I know it's not fair, but life's not fair, Xenia. Nothing is. You just have to learn to deal with it sometimes..."

"Oh, so we're going to be killed for no reason, and you're telling me to deal with it?" I dropped my voice dangerously. "Theseus, if we die, there are no second chances. We can't just deal with it. We'll be dead. There will be no 'dealing with' if we're dead," I pointed out fiercely.

His face still shrouded in shadows, he put his hand on my shoulder. "I know. But at this point, we an't do anything about it," he said wisely.

I snorted. "Have you been listening? That's what I've been getting at! We can do something, but you have to work with me here!"

"I have been listening. And that's what I've been trying to get at myself. We can't do anything about it. You're just naive."

"Whatever. Maybe you're just a Debbie Downer," I scowled

He shrugged in the darkness. "Maybe so. But I'm being realistic."

I scowled even harder. "fine, if you don't value you life, then you can go turn yourself in. But just because your life sucks and nobody loves you doesn't mean the rest of us are the same way," I stung cruelly.

He didn't seem to take any major offense to it. I guess by now he was used to my sharp tongue. I slipped off the rock and stalked back to the others, leaving Theseus in the dark of the forest all alone to dwell on what he'd just said.

Hey so sorry this chapter was short, but you know, I thought it was a good place to cut off, plus this chapter is boring. Soo...I haven't written the next part yet so it might take a while to get it all written and edited and yaddayadda....anyway, what'd you think? I'm toying with the idea of making someone die soon...but I've said too much already XD

Thanks for reading! Drop a comment please!
