*Carm's P.O.V.*
Last night was a weird, yet sweet interaction. I have never kissed a guy first before. I have never kissed someone on the first date before. His offering to take the couch so I could sleep in a bed was 110% sweet and oh so adorable. Second day in L.A. I've already bought some furniture. And I've already got my eye on someone. I check my phone to a text from Elise saying the following:
"I've got a surprise for you coming! It might'nt be ready for a while, but it's in progress. You're going to love it!!"
I smile and text back.
"I can't wait!!"
And then the doorbell rings. i walk around open it, and then there's a fresh-faced, obviously showered Jon. I'm wearing a black crop top, black and white oxford shoes, a blue skater skirt, and an undone grey cardigan. He looks me up and down and after a long breath says:
"You look. Damn. This is so good.
The outfit, I mean.""You don't look too bad yourself, Jonathan." I say, in a horrid attempt at flirting.
"Come on, let's go. I'm gonna take you someplace special."
"Someplace Special, you say? So this is a date?" I'm a lot more flirty today. Maybe it's the jet lag. He seems to be prepared for this question, because instead of floundering around and his face going red, he shoots back with
"If you want it to be." he says, looking at me intently, and cheekily raising an eyebrow slightly.
"Then let it be so." I jokingly hold out my hand for him to kiss, and he plays along.
"Come on, let's go." My hand is now in his, he guides me to his car, and he opens the door for me. I can't help but give a small laugh at this, and I curtsey in response. He gets in soon after I do, and before I know it, we're off and away.
"Am I allowed any hints as to where we're going?" We're driving past streets and houses I don't recognise, but he seems to know the way.
"Well, you haven't been here very long. You haven't seen much yet, were you planning to see the sights at any point soon?" he responds, eyes still on the road.
"Well yes, but not for a while."
"Not for a while? Come on, you're new! Fresh off the plane! You're in tourist mode! Let's be tourists!' He's got a fair point. Why not have fun? I've grocery shopped, bought some furniture. I'm pretty solid. Let's be tourists.
"You're right. Let's be tourists." Before I know it, we've arrived at destination #1, and holy crap, it's amazing. You know, you see this stuff all over social media. Arguably the most famous piece of signage the world's ever had. And smack bang, here it is, straight out of an instagram photo, the Hollywood Sign.
I get out of the car and run to get closer to the rail of the viewing point.
"Oh this is so much cooler than the Wellington one." Jon, who appears beside me responds with:
"Wellington has one?"
"Just outside the airport. It says 'Wellywood'." He laughs. I'm not entirely sure he believes me. But it's there. A giant corny eyesore. This, however, is classic. There's a few other people scattered around the place - they're all tourists. Perfect, I'll fit right in. Jon asks the man in a fanny pack to take a picture of us, and I take Jon's hand. I'm happy.

"Well, Carm, i'm glad you liked this. Are you ready for the next stop?" Carm turns to look at me with lit up eyes.
"Bring it on." She smiles. I love her smile.
In a whirlwind of smiling and laughing, photos, we somehow end up on the road to Disneyland. Just as Carm realises where we're going, she does a happy dance squirming in her seat. Once we're inside, she is running around, looking at everything, trying to take it all in. She's like a golden retriever. So pure, so innocent, to be quite frank, perfect. She is perfect. Soon enough, it is the end of the day. We decide on one last ride - the teacups. Carm, now wearing a Minnie mouse hat, looks so delighted and over the moon. As the ride starts, I can't help but blurt out:
"Hey, so, you should like, date me. Like. Date date me." Good god, Jon. What the fuck was that?
"As in be your girlfriend?"
I nod. I'm scared if I say anything else, it'll be a clusterfuck of incoherent words.
"Yes. Of course."
Before the ride starts speeding up too much, I shuffle over to her side of the teacup and put my arm around her. I'm so lucky I get to do that - I haven't known her for very long. But I know that she is special.
Today has been a good day.
