"You'll do fine." My mom said while we were both sitting in the car, not taking her eyes off of her phone.
"I don't know anyone." I replied with stress in my voice, fidgeting with my back pack.
"Maia you'll survive, now go." My mom said, putting her phone away. I let out a deep breath and opened the car door. I felt the wind tickle my skin with a cold breeze.
"Love you!" My mom yelled out the window then rolled it up quickly and sped off, leaving me infront of my new school. The wind blew my light brown hair in front of my face and I brushed it off.
" 'Scuse us, sorry." I heard a voice behind me. I stepped to the side as a bunch of girls walked past me. I took another deep breath and threw my bag over my shoulder. I walked into the school.
'Ok, locker 883.' I thought to myself. I started down the hall and noticed no one was paying any attention to me, so that was a good start. I finally found my locker and beside it was a boy with blue hair, on his Iphone. I opened up my locker, not expecting him to say anything to me.
"Hey." His australian accent sang. I started to put my books in my locker.
"Hi." I said, tucking my hair behind my ears.
"Looks like we're locker buddies, I'm Michael." He continued, "What's your name? I've never seen you here before."
"Yes, Maia and probably not, because I'm new." I said with a little bit of sarcasm in my voice. I went onto my phone to pause my music, and unplugged my headphones.
"Hey the 1975, me and my friends listen to them." He said, looking at my phone.
"Really?" I smiled at him.
"Yeah, wow that's cool." He smiled back. I nodded.
"So where are you from? You sound American or something." He said.
"Actually yeah, I'm from Chicago." I replied.
"Oh cool, what are you doing in Australia?" He asked. He was obviously very curious about my life and I couldn't tell why. I looked up at him with a furrowed brow.
"My mom had a job transfer to Sydney." I said back to him. Just then the 5 minute bell rang.
"I should probably go, what do you have first?" He asked.
"Uh, English." I replied from my memory.
"Oh, I knew where the english room is, want me to walk you there?" He asked.
"Sure, thanks." He quickly grabbed his books and I grabbed mine, we started walking down the hallway.
"Yo Michael! Hey man how was your summer?" A guy called as we walked past, giving him a fist bump.
"Not bad!" He said, we continued on walking.
"Mike!" Another guy said, Mike nodded his head at him.
"Mikey who's this beauty?" A guy asked as he passed, referrering to me. He smiled and shook his head and rolled his eyes at him, giving him a fist bump too. I didn't even think he would be this popular.
"Alright here it is, I'll see you later Maia!" Michael said, walking backwards. As soon as he left I felt alone again. I walked into the classroom. I decided to sit at the back of the class. I plugged in my music and waited for the bell to ring. I was watching the doorway with my head down on my desk as a tall, extremely good looking blonde-haired guy walked in. He had on a Nirvana t-shirt and ripped black jeans. I felt my stomach turn. I sat up in my chair and fixed my hair. I continued to watch him as he sat down in the seat ahead of me.
