"Alright finish this package, I know it's the first day and blah blah but whatever, get it done tonight for homework." The teacher said, erasing the black board. I let out a deep sigh and plugged my headphones in again.
"Hey." I heard a voice behind me. It was a girl.
I turned around, startled. "Hi."
"Do you wanna work on this together? I suck at chemistry..." She said, tapping her pencil. I kind of studied her face for a second, she had dark brown hair, brown eyes and her face was coated in freckles.
"Uh, Sure." I said, turning back around. She got up and came to sit beside me.
"Sorry this is kind of weird, but you seem cool. I'm Elyce." She smiled at me.
"I'm Maia." I smiled back.
"Are you new?" She asked, not paying any attention to the work.
"Uh yeah, I'm from Chicago in the US."
"Really? What are ya doing here?" Her curious australian accent rang throughout the room.
"My mom had a job transfer." I said, writing.
"Elyce, get to work." The teacher said, it was apparent they already knew each other.
"Sorry." She said, pretending to write.
"So seen any cute guys yet? There's quite a few at this school, I will admit." She said in a low whisper, writing on her page. I looked up at her. Why was she asking me this? Why did she even want to know?
"I've seen a few." I said, trying to show her I was uninterested in talking right now.
"Like who? I bet I know them!" She said, getting a little louder.
"Um-" I was cut off by the bell ringing. Thank god.
"I'll see you later, yeah?" She smiled at me.
"Yeah!" I smiled. I left the class and went up the stairs. I finally reached my locker, and I approached my lock and opened it.
"Maia!" Michael said, approching his locker.
"Hey!" I said, smiling. I turned to look at him to see Luke and Calum approaching him. I stayed at my locker, and tried to hide my face.
"Maia! This is Luke and Calum!" Michael said, turning me around.
"Hey again." I said, awkwardly laughing.
"Hey Maia." Luke said, smiling at me.
"What you guys met?" Michael asked, confused.
"Yeah, uh she's in my english class." Luke said, he was still smiling at me. Just then a girl with long blonde perfectly curled hair, her face caked in makeup, walked up to us.
"Hey babe." She said, wrapping her arms around Luke's neck. My heart dropped.
"Michael. Calum." She said, unenthusiastically.
"Rachel." Calum said. I swallowed hard.
"Oh? And who is this?" She said, she was almost glaring at me.
"This is Maia." Luke said.
"Hmm." Rachel said looking at me, then turned to Luke.
"Lukey baby come downstairs with me." She said, her hands were still around his neck.
"Yeah, sure." He said. She looked to Calum and Michael and fake smiled at them, and gave me a glare. Luke looked over at them and they were shaking their heads. He let out a sigh and ran his hand through his hair, and walked away.
"Fucking hate her." Calum said, his back against the locker. I stood there, still in shock.
"Was that uh... Luke's girlfriend?" I asked, playing with my bracelets.
"Unfortunately." Michael answered.
"You guys don't like her?" I asked, obviously knowing the answer.
"No, no one does." Calum said to me.
"Why's Luke dating her? He could do so much better." That slipped out of my mouth. They both turned to me with a cheeky smile.
"How so?" Michael asked, smiling.
"I don't know, he seems so nice and sweet, and he has an amazing taste in music and-" I cut myself off when I saw them smiling at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Do you like him?" Michael asked.
"Well I mean... I don't know him, this is the first day I've talked to him, and you guys." I said.
"Well Maia, it most definitely won't be the last." Calum smiled to me.
