"Are you coming over?" Luke asked as we walked home. I looked over to him.
"Don't I always?" I smiled cheekily.
"Yeah." He laughed, looking down at the ground.
"Luke, is everything alright?" I looked over to him and he paused for a minute and stared at me.
"Yeah." He looked forward.
"Luke." I said sternly. He turned to me and let out a deep breath.
"I'll tell you later, just not right now." He said, he was playing with the hem of his shirt like he did when he was nervous. I let out a sigh and looked forward, we walked in silence.
"Do you uh.. wanna go to the park?" He asked rubbing the back of his head.
"The park?" I asked in confusion.
"Yeah, just for something different, if not that's ok I don-" I cut him off.
"Yeah sure Luke, it'll be fun." I smiled and he half-smiled back.
"Lukey!" I heard a voice behind me. The annoyingness of the voice was too familiar, and I turned around to see Rachel standing there, holding hands with some football guy. She started to run, her high heels clicking on the cement. Luke and I spun around and he met eyes with Rachel, she embraced him, glaring at me. I closed my eyes and let out a sigh.
"Listen, can we talk?" Rachel asked him, holding his hand and batting her eyelashes, he looked over to me and I looked down at the ground avoiding eye contact.
"Sure." He sighed, they walked over to a bench and sat down. I watched them carefully. I felt a pair of eyes on me, and I turned to the tall footfall player, I furrowed my brow at him.
"Hi." He laughed.
"Hi." I said.
"So you're 'that bitch Maia' Rachel is always talking about." He said, stepping closer to me.
"Guess so." I sighed. I kept my eyes on Luke, she had her hands on his chest, Luke was looking weak.
"So... you like Luke?" He asked, rubbing his neck.
"What?" I said quickly.
"Well it's no secret, I see they way you look at him at school, and right now."
"I'm just making sure she doesn't pull anything." I shot back.
"You and I both know she's going to." He said, staring at me. I looked over to him, shaking my head. He shrugged his shoulders.
"Yeah, she's like that." He put his hands in his pockets.
"Like what?" I looked up him.
"Just... awful, and uncommited." He said, looking at me.
"Then why are you with her?" I asked.
"I'm just another toy in her little plan to get Luke back."
"And you're ok with that?" I laughed at his stupidity.
"I don't know," he looked down, "my friends all tell me how hot she is and how I should date her and stuff."
I looked back to them to see Rachel was inches away from his face. My breathing was uneven and I turned around. The boy looked over to me.
"I'm sorry." He said.
"Why are you sorry? It's your girlfriend." I said, holding back tears.
"It's not like I care, you obviously care about Luke." He said.
"You deserve better than her." I said, smiling at him.
"Well I'd hope so." He laughed. I laughed and turned back to Luke, their lips finally met and I froze. The world around me faded and I didn't know what to do. I started walking down the street, and I heard someone calling after me, but I began to ran. I ran the whole way home, tears running down my face. I opened my front door and ran in, slamming it behind me. I sunk down to the floor and cried. There was knocking on the door.
"Go away Luke!" I yelled.
"It's not Luke."
I sat up and looked through the curtain, it was Rachels 'boyfriend'. I sniffled and opened the door, but I saw Luke behind him and slammed it shut again, crying harder.
"Maia!" I heard Luke call. Just then I heard muffled arguing behind the wooden door.
"What a dick move." Rachel's boyfriend yelled at Luke.
"It was your damn girlfriend who threw herself at me, you saw what happened! I pushed her off right away!" Luke argued back.
"Kyle, come here! It doesn't even matter, who cares about her anyways." I heard Rachel yell, faintly. I got up and looked through the window, I saw her boyfriend shaking his head.
"That girl in there deserves none of this, you're both assholes!" Kyle yelled. He walked down the steps and down the street, pushing past Rachel.
"Ugh, we're through!" She yelled after Kyle.
"Do you think I give a fuck?" He spun around, then continued walking. Why did he care about me so much? Why was he sticking up for me? Luke turned around and kept knocking on the door.
"Maia, please listen to me!"
"Oh Luke give it up, that little bitch deserves all of this. Come on babe." Rachel said. I swung the door open. I ran and pushed Rachel as hard as I could, and she fell to the ground, she looked up at me with fear and anger in her eyes.
"Fine you win, just leave me the fuck alone."
I walked back up to my house, not looking at Luke.
"Maia please just stop!" Luke said in a shaky voice.
"That goes for you too." I said without looking at him.
