"Suspended?!" I gasped.

"1 week! We do not tolerate fighting in this school of any sort, whether it is verbal or physical." She said, folding her hands and setting them on the desk. I folded my arms over my chest.

"1 week..." I complained sarcastically under my breath. I sat there and stared at the floor, I'd never been suspended before.

"Your guardian is coming to pick you up now, you are not allowed back at the school until next week." She continued. I nodded my head. Just then my Mom stormed in the office. I spun around quickly.

"Maia. Let's go, now." She said, glaring at me.

"I am so sorry for my daughters behaviour Mrs. Ellis, I can assure you it'll never happen again." She said to the principal. The principal nodded at her. My mom held the door for me and I walked out. We got into the car and that's when I thought the yelling would start, but I was wrong.

"How did this happen?" She asked me calmly, pulling out of the school driveway.

"Luke's girlfriend cheated on him and I-" I said, putting my feet up on the seat.

"Oh....." My Mom said interupting me.

"What do you mean 'oh'?" I asked, I knew exactly what she meant though.

"I get it." She said, driving down the street.

"You're not mad?" I asked, surprised.

"Of course I am, but I get it," she said, "I know you have some feelings for Luke and well... I guess I understand why you'd be so mad." She shrugged her shoulders.

"Wait how do you know I like Luke?" I asked, turning to her. She rolled her eyes at me.

"Maia, I'm not completely stupid." She laughed.

"I see how you look at him when he's over, you always talk about him and are really happy when you do, and it's not like I can't hear you talking to Elyce all night on the phone about him." She continued. I rubbed my neck, I guess she was right I wasn't exactly subtle about it. We finally pulled into my driveway.

"Alright now it's time to be a parent. Go to your room." She said, sarcastically. I laughed and got out of the car.

"I'll be home before 5, love you!" She yelled out the window as she drove away.

"Love you too!" I said, waving. I walked up the steps of my house and searched my backpack for my keys. I finally found them and fiddled with the lock until the door opened. I shut the door behind me and dropped my backpack on the ground. Before I even had time to think my phone rang.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Maia... we need to talk." I heard Luke from the other line.

"Ok." I sighed.

"I mean like in person." He said, he sounded really on edge.

"Alright when?"

"Now." He said, just then I heard a knock on my door. I opened the door with the phone still to my ear, standing there was Luke who looked like he was a mirror to me. He hung up his phone and I hung up mine. He looked up at my with a pleading look.

"Can I come in?" He asked.

"Yeah, of course." I answered. He walked in and stood infront of me.

"So you're suspended, huh?" He laughed. I shrugged but then reality hit me of what just happened and my eyes started to water.

"Don't cry... Don't cry." He said, he wrapped his arms around me and I started to cry. He released me from the hug and wiped my tears.

"What happened after I left?" He asked timidly, brushing the hair from my face.

"I... I don't know." I said sniffling, "I just kind of lost it." I said, rubbing my arm.

"But why?" He asked, tilting my chin up because I was looking at the floor.

"Because you're my best friend and no one should be treating you like that. You deserve so much better than that, and her. And I just want you to know that no matter what, I will always be here for you. " I said. He smiled from ear to ear.

"Thank you." He whispered, pulling me against his chest. I wrapped my arms around his back. There was a moment of silence and I could tell that we were both just thinking.

"Maia..." Luke suddenly muttered, releasing me from the hug.

"Yeah?" I said looking up at him.

"Uh..." He said, running his hands through his hair.

"What?" I smiled.

"Nothing, nevermind." He said, shifting his feet.

"Really?" I looked up at him.

"Yeah uh, I gotta go." He said.

"Oh... ok." I hesitated. He started towards the door.

"I'll see you later, babe." He smiled to me from behind the door.

"See you." I smiled faintly at him, and he shut the door.
