19 years old Chanel was in no mood to be spoken to. She had just found out her best friend had been keeping a huge secret from her and was beyond upset at the world. Little did she know that, like Shanique, she too would soon have a life altering secret to share.
Walking briskly down Hillside road Chanel hugged her Louis Vuitton jacket close to her body and recounted the years of best friendship she and Shanique shared - had shared she thought bitterly. She could not believe her best friend had kept this secret from her for so long. They had been friends since the third day of the first grade, because as their friendship would come to teach Chanel, Nique was always late and had ended up being registered late for school just like her.
The laughs, the tears, the breakups - thinking back now she realized it should have been so obvious. Though Nique was 19 like her with long curly hair, had a curvaceous body, heart shaped face and big brown eyes she had never been in a relationship with a guy and had always refused the advances of guys in and out of her age group - always using her school work as an excuse or her mother's strictness. Now it all made sense. Wow was all she could think - Just Wow.
Talking to herself as she stepped through her gate she almost missed the ringing of her phone. Pausing on the final step she removed it and the house key from her bag. For once her ringtone Secrets by Mary Lambert did not move her to sing along. In fact she decided she may change it since Shanique clearly thought that she would care more about her secrets than their friendship. So much for not extrapolating her feelings she thought. Not bothering to check the caller ID, since she knew only one person really called her, she answered.
"Nellie! Omg I'm sorry. I know you must have seen the pictures and I can explain. Can I come over?" For the first time in her life she hesitated to answer.
"I need you" Nique blurted then burst into tears.
Her best friend crying was one of the things Chanel hated most and the only weakness Shanique knew to exploit so with a sigh she said "Sure. I'm home".
"I'm on my way".
While waiting for her to come Nellie thought about her day. She had awoken thinking today would have been a good day. Man what was she thinking. She had clearly listened to too many Lil Wayne songs before going to bed the night before. When she stepped into school the first thing that had greeted her apart from weird looks from the school population was a picture of her best friend fully clothed kissing a girl that she knew but not very well. The second picture Nique was sitting on top of the same girl in her bra and underwear with a look of bliss and devotion on her face. She looked comfortable like this position was one she was used to. The last picture she was completely naked and poised with her back arched while another girl licked at her clit. As hot as that picture was to her she was still pissed at the way she found out her best friend was a lesbian.
She felt like it was her fault. The pictures were obviously taken by one of the two girls in them. She felt like an outsider in her best friend's life. Wasn't she good enough to know?
She hadn't spoken to Nellie all day - ignoring her calls, sitting in the bathroom stall during the entire lunch period and arriving last to their only class together for the day. She had sat to the extreme left and had been the first one out of her seat when the bell rang and had not bothered to respond to her best friend's plea to talk to her. Now she wanted to talk huh? Now she had things to say? she fumed getting upset again over the situation. They say a picture is worth a thousand words well she saw 3 pictures which means she had heard all she needed to.
When her doorbell rang she was almost tempted not to get it but that was futile since Nellie had a key too and knew that she was inside. In the name of saving her friendship she opened the door.
