They spent the rest of the afternoon with Shanique and Christina. It was slightly awkward at first and she hesitated just a heartbeat when making the introductions but settled on using "new friend" to describe Kayliah. Shanique raised a brow slightly at that since she didn't know her but figured since their friendship was just getting on track again she wouldn't ruin it with something that petty. It could wait until another day when they were alone.

Kayliah didn't say anything while Chanel made the introductions to her best friend but stiffened slightly when she paused after saying friend. Chanel felt the change and looked over briefly before continuing to recount what had happened at the bar. She left out the kiss to avoid any complicated questions.

After a little period of silence Shanique suggested they play beach volleyball. The 3 girls agreed immediately and Shanique along with Christina left to rent a ball and net for the game.

When they left Kayliah looked at Chanel with a raised eyebrow. Knowing exactly where the conversation was about to head she tried to sidestep it by explaining "What we have going on between us" she said gesturing with her pointer finger "is undefined and I didn't want to complicate it and put you in an awkward spot". Kayliah raised another eyebrow but nodded since she saw Shanique and Christina returning.

They swam and played beach volleyball on the sand until the sun started going down and Shanique admitted she was tired and hungry with the others in agreement. They opted for fried fish and festival from a cabana close by and chatted while they ate. Nellie got to know Christina a little better and got to like her even more but everytime Shanique asked Kayliah a question it seeemed to get more hostile and direct. Noticing the tension Christina indicated that she was ready to turn in for the night and asked Shanique to accompany her. While they said goodbyes Shanique was reluctant to hug Kayliah but did it anyway to avoid an argument. When they walked off Nellie could hear Christina ask "What the hell was that back there?" but Shanique's answer was inaudible.

Left by themselves Kayliah and Nellie fell into a comfortable silence until Kayliah asked "Sooo what are we?" Nellie's 6th sense had warned her the question was coming but she wasn't sure how to answer. She really liked her but wasn't sure she wanted to give a title to what they had currently. She explained this to Kayliah "I really like you but I am new to this lesbian thing and since you're the first girl I've ever 'talked' to" she said while using her fingers to gesture "I'm not sure if I want to put a handle to this right now. I mean we've only been talking for a few weeks and I know I probably sound like a prude and I'm not explaining it properly and should also stop talking to gather my thoughts and form coherent sentences..." She stopped and was about to start again when Kayliah started laughing. It started out as a regular chuckle and erupted into a full belly laugh that she appeared to cant contain.
When she calmed down she said "That's one of the reasons I like you. You're funny and know when to quit while you're ahead. I really like you and you really like me so what's stopping us from being together? I know I'm your first but it's not like I'll pressure you to do anything you won't want to. We're young and having fun. Being in a relationship isn't the end of that it just shows that we like each other and want to see where it goes. How does that sound?"

The urge to agree was overwhelming but Nellie still had her doubts. She was afraid that once they became exclusive she might be jealous and overprotective like Christina had been at first. She also wanted her best friend's opinion before she jumped face first into a relationship.

Seeing her hesitation Kayliah said "Nevermind, forget it" and got up from the stool walking towards where they had left their clothes and towels. They packed in silence and once they were done Kayliah asked if she wanted a ride home. She was about to decline since her house was close by but decided to accept instead. She couldn't decline her twice today.

While they were in the car Kayliah didn't talk so neither did Chanel. She instead thought about what being in a relationship with Kayliah would entail while music played from the radio. Aptly, "I wanna be" by Avant started playing as she decided that a relationship wasn't the end of the world. She started to smile and turned to watch Kayliah pretend to concentrate on the stoplight while sneaking glances at her.

When Kayliah pulled into her driveway she jumped out of the car and headfirst into the relationship. She walked around the car to lean in through the window. "Yes I'd like to be your girlfriend" she said while watching Kayliah's face for any signs of regret. What she saw told her she made the right decision. Kayliah's happiness was almost palpable, like it was a diamond in the rough that had been polished to a sparkle. Her smile, the first one since their conversation earlier, spoke volumes and like the flu it was contagious. Smiling back she kissed a still surprised Kayliah and ran up the steps to her house. When she entered the code she turned and waved to Kayliah who drove off. They were togther. She was in her first lesbian relationship she thought as she stepped through the threshold.
