Chapter 15

I feel my heart skip a little and find myself standing there in shock. What did he just say to me? Did those words really just come out of his mouth? I watch in silence as Ashton turns around, hands in pockets and heads towards his car at the end of the car park.

"Hey, you coming?" Tamsin asks as she appears by my side.

I frown and stare after Ashton's retreating figure for a moment longer before turning to face her, "Yeah. I'm coming."

She links her arm with mine as she leads me away from the restaurant and towards the cars. "So are you going to tell me what that was about?" She enquires. I raise an eyebrow at her but don't answer as we continue walking. "Come on Lexi. All I'm asking is what you two were talking about."

Again I choose not to answer her and she gives up on trying to get me to talk. Instead we separate as she heads to join Adrian who is waiting for her beside my mother's car. I open the door to Lochlan's car and step in just before Taliah and Joel do the same. Once again she is on a talking spree, words just pouring out of her mouth. Jeez, does she ever not talk. I sigh and lean back against the seat, closing my eyes.

"What are you doing?" Taliah's voice rings out, clearly addressing me.

I keep my eyes closed as I feel the car start to move. "Ignoring you."

"Alexis." I hear Joel say lowly and I open to find him giving me a disapproving look from the front.

Taliah on the other hands is giving me a small glare, "Why? What have I done?"

I shrug at her and resist the urge to tell her to just be quiet, "I'm just getting a headache and would just appreciate a little bit of silence."

She closes her mouth immediately and turns her head away from me. I know that if we had been anywhere else but here she would have said something but she doesn't want to start anything with me in front of Joel. I flick my eyes to the front and catch sight of Lochlan's eyes in the mirror. "You okay Lex?" He asks.

I nod my head, "Yeah. Just a small headache, that's all." In all honesty I'm just confused. All night people have been implying that something must be happening between me and Ashton and all night I have been trying to tell them otherwise. Then out of the blue he tells me I look beautiful. Any other day and I would just laugh and shrug it off but today for some reason those words, from his mouth, made my heart skip a beat. Now I'm just confused.

We stop off at Taliah's house first and let her out here. Joel goes with her and walks her to the door and gives her a kiss goodnight. I look away from them and find Lochlan turned around to look at me, "How's the head?" He asks.

"Fine." I reply.

"Good. Now are you going to tell what's actually bothering you?" He says seriously.

I sigh and shake my head, "Nope."

He also sighs before turning back around as Joel gets in the car. In silence we head back home and before I know it, we pull up at the house. I hurry to get out the car and into the house but before I can make it there a hand reaches out to stop me. "Alexis wait." I hear Lochlan say.

I take a deep breath before turning to face him, "What?" I ask.

"What's wrong sis?"

"Nothing." I reply.

He gives me a knowing look, "Alexis, I'm your brother. I can tell when something is bothering you." He pauses for a second and I can feel his eyes searching my face for something, "Is it to do with Ashton?" He asks quietly, "Cause if he's done anything to you I swea-"
