Chapter 1
The sun glints off a car hurtling past me as I cover my eyes from the blinding light. That car was then followed by another and then a limo before a final black car followed.
I frown after them as a I cough, swatting at the dirt clouds billowing up from the ground. Where are those cars going? Especially the limo, there is practically nothing to do around here. The town of Greenfield is small and doesn't really have much, it has a semi-decent high street, a mall and some schools. Nothing much. Once you are out of the town there is just mainly the countryside and ranches.
One of the ranches belongs to my family. 'Seeing Stars' is primarily run by my mother and is doing not too badly for a town of this size. We offer lessons to kids of all ages and teach multiple disciplines. I help out when I can, mostly during weekends. My ranch is the only place this road leads to, why would the cars come here?
I look back at the road I have been walking down. The bus drops me off at the junction for the road down to my ranch. It will not go any further and can be a pain in the butt as it means I have to walk 45 minutes down the road to my ranch house.
I sigh and pull my satchel higher up on my shoulder before continuing my walk down the road. Eventually my house comes into view, along with the limo and the other cars.
My curiosity grows and I move my satchel once again up higher on my shoulder before taking off at a light run towards my house. I stop running after I see my beautiful bay canter up to the fence. I stroke his neck and let out a laugh as he nudges me, looking for a treat, "Later!" I smile and give him a kiss before walking the rest of the way into my house.
I walk past the cars, eyeing them carefully before making my way into my house, "Mum?" I call out as I dump my bag at the door.
When I get no response I make my way down the hall into the living room. I stop, confused as I see the room filled with people chatting to my mother who smiles at me, "Ah Alexis, meet Mr Meyers!" she says and a gentleman reaches out to shake my hand.
I smile and shake his hand,"Hi," I say quietly. He grins at me, "Nice to meet you Alexis, I'm just discussing use of your property with your mother."
I nod, confused, "Okay?"
He sees that I don't understand and continues, "I'm looking to use your ranch as the location for the new film I am directing. As long as that's alright with you?"
I stand there gobsmacked, someone wants to use our ranch in a film? Why? I nod my head quickly, "Sure that's fine."
My mum grins at me as Mr Meyers straightens up, "That's great. I've already discussed the paperwork with your mother and we'll be back tomorrow with cast and crew to set up for filming." I nod again and shake his hand once more as he leaves the room with his men and my mother.
I hear my mother say goodbye to them and then come back into the room with me, "They want to come here to film a movie?" I say and shake my head incredulously. She laughs, "I know, I know! It sounds crazy but its the real thing! They'll pay us as well, its good money and you know how much we need it."
It was true, although I say the ranch is doing okay, its really just skating by. Ever since the accident.... the ranch has kind of gone down hill. I sigh and nod, "Yeah I do, its just weird to think about."
She nods and offers me her hand, "Come on, I made you some dinner. Lets eat before the boys come home and devour it all!" she chuckles.
I grin and take her hand as we make our way into the dining room. You see, my mother and I have to eat first because if not then we don't eat at all. I'm the youngest child of 5. Yep! I have 4 older siblings and I'm the only girl. It used to be a pain but now its kind of alright. They are really protective though!
