I walked into Forever 21, not knowing what I was feeling. Aaron Burr just... I felt like I should feel disgusted, or awkward, or maybe nervous, but I felt flattered. It had made me happy when he said that.
I looked at a blue leather jacket when a girl from school bumped into me. It was Maria Reynolds.
"Hi. You're Eliza, right?" She asked.
"Yeah. Maria?"
"Yeah. Look, I was wondering if you could see which one of these colors is nicer on me. If it's not inconvenient." She smiled.
"Oh, I'd love to!" I said and smiled. She showed me a dark red leather jacket and the same one in a muted yellow. I looked at it, seeing the contrasting tones of her pale brown skin and dark brown hair. Finally, I said: "Red."
"Really?"
"Yes."
She did not only get the jacket in that color, she also got a beautiful dress. She helped me pick out a necklace.
"Thank you. Wanna hang out sometime?" She asked.
"Oh, yeah!" I replied. We high-fived.
I left the store with a new friend. Little did I know what she would do to me.
