A few days later at school I sat with Yugi watching Tea and Joey duel it out.

Joey played a rock monster. 800ATK, 1200DF. "My rock monster's gonna knock your block off." He declared.

Tea looked thoughtful and played the Happy Lovers card in defense mode. 800ATK, 500DF. A fairy card.

"Like that wimpy card has a chance against my giant rock guy. Give it up!"

Tea shrugged. "Guess I don't stand a chance unless I use The Breath Of Life spell card."

I laughed.

"Can she do that?" Joey demanded of Yugi.

My brother nodded. The Breath Of Life card wears down rock monsters.

"Reduces them to rubble." I said, maybe a bit to cheerily.

"And that brings your life points down to zero." Tea said. "Sorry."

"Tea has now won her fifth match against you." I said. "In a row."

"You stink at this game." Tristan said from behind me.

After school Joey came to Yugi and me as we sat on the jungle gym.

"Tristan's right." He said dejectedly. "I stink. I can't win to save my life. Teach me, you guys. What am I doing wrong?"

"Deck." I said, extending my hand.

Joey handed it over. "Powerhouse lineup, huh?"

I jumped down an started riffling through, my confusion growing with each new card.

No one can win with these. Yugi said, looking over my shoulder.

"You have only monster cards." I said. "No wonder Tea beat you."

"But I packed it with every single butt kicking monster I could find." Joey said proudly.

I groaned. "You tell him." I said to Yugi.

That isn't how the game works. You have to use monster cards in combination to your magic cards. With no magic in your deck your monsters will get creamed every time.

Joey's face was so hilarious I wish I had taken a picture for future blackmail purposes.

"Why didn't anyone tell me?! Teach me, guys! Please! I'm begging here!"

So that's how Joey ended up walking home with Yugi and me.

You see, Grandpa is the real game expert in the family. He's forgotten more about the game then what Yugi and I know combined.

"We brought you a student!" I said, pushing open the door.

Grandpa got off the stool he was using to hang a poster. "What?"

Joey blushed. "I was hoping that since you know so much about Duel Monsters that you would teach me."

"I don't know." Grandpa said. "Duel monsters is very complex."

"Tell me about it. Tea beat me three times in a row."

"Five." I coughed.

Joey groaned.
