Joey was in trouble if Rex’s smile was anything to go by.

“Your horned freaks may have won control of the field but now it’s time to see if you can hold it. Trakadon!”  He summoned the monster in defense mode but it was soon destroyed by Joey’s Battleguards.

The card burst into shards as the Battleguards glowed with power. The power boost they got from both being on the field made them a tough duo to beat. Not to mention that according to Téa Rex’s most powerful creature had already been smote.

Where the heck did that come from?

“Who said that the Serpent night dragon was my best card?” Rex laughed. “My best monster is a dragon but of a different sort. The Red-Eyes, Black Dragon.”

        “A what?”

It was huge, the black scales covering a hawk like body, arms extended to slash and grab, powerful jaws ready to bite Joey’s monsters in half at the word of his master.

        2400 ATK.

        Yikes.

“Your pair of primates can power up until their green in the face but they will never be able to match the raw power of my dragon.”

Grandpa had told Yugi and me of this card long ago, it’s powers said to rival that of a Blue-eyes, White dragon.

I knew then that unless Joey figured out the best possible move it was over for him.

Rex added Dragon nails, boosting his dragon's strength to 3000.

        The poor Battleguards.

He attacked, the ball of flame obliterating now one but both of the Battleguards.

“He destroyed them both in one shot!”

“Those who defend together are defeated together.”

        “Son of a motherless goat.”

“Do you smell that, Joey? It’s the stench of your defeated battleguards. Who’s up next for the roast? I’ll turn your entire deck to ash!”

“Yugi, Iris. Tell me there is something Joey can do.” Téa asked.

I covered Yugi’s mouth at the same time he covered mine.

        “That’s a yes.” She said.

“Breathe, Joey.” Tristan said. “You may not have the brawn to defeat that creature but you have the brains. Figure it out.”

        “You got this, Joey.”

“Dueling is more about heart than strength.”

        Joey nodded and drew, grinning.

From  the look on Rex’s face I guessed he had just remembered that Joey still had Time Wizard out.

        Okay. I heard his thoughts.

“Are you just gonna stand there with that dumb look on your face?” Mai yelled.

I groaned as I guessed the missing bits of Rex’s thoughts.

“Oh, Joey. I have an idea to make this duel more interesting. On top of our star chips lets each bet a card. And to make it fair we each bet the card on our field.”
