Mark and I were sitting on the bench enjoying our pretzels when my phone went off about twenty times. I had just finished my pretzel, so I took out my phone.
Maddie: Kaeli. Be calm now. Dan is going to the hospital. Phil, Andi, and I are going with in the ambulance. Can you meet us there with Mark? Nobody is doing too well right now.
Kaeli: What?!? Why?!? What happened?!? We will be on our way right now!!!
I stood up. "Mark," I say, "we need to go to the hospital...now! He gave me a quizzical look, but then stood up. "I'll explain in the car," I say before grabbing his hand and running towards the exit.
*on the way to the hospital*
Mark was staring straight at the road. His hands were gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were turning white. He turned to me. "Kaeli, what is happening? Why am I driving us to the hospital?"
I knew Mark was worried. I put my hand on top of his, then looked at him. "Mark," I say, "Dan is in the hospital."
Mark paled as he suddenly lost control of the wheel. I screamed before hearing a crash. My hand was in Mark's. That's all I remember happening. That's when everything went black.
*waking up*
I open my eyes to be blinded by a bright fluorescent light. I have no idea where I am. Then I remember...the crash.
I scream at the top of my lungs at the memory. A nurse rushed in and came to my side. "Are you alright?" she asked. I wiped a tear from my face. "I-I'm ok," I manage to say before bursting into tears. I started to panic. Mark! Where's Mark?!? "MARK!!!!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. I cried and cried until I was out of tears. The nurse stayed by my side the whole time. I think I went through two boxes of tissues during my meltdown.
I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
