Chapter Ten:
When we arrive at Elliott's, I stand awkwardly by the car door, not knowing what to do. Elliott comes over to me and leads me to his house.
"Well, obviously this is my house. Make yourself at home," Elliott grins and gestures for me to go inside. I walk in, but don’t know what to do. I know he said to make myself at home but I haven’t known him long and there is the fact that the only other guy's house that I have been to is Owen's.
"Just sit on the sofa," Jake chuckles from behind me. "Do you go to other peoples houses often?"
I shake my head. “No.”
"Really?" He looks taken aback. "Well.. just flop down on the sofa. Just act as if this is your home," he tells me. I nod and sit down. Jake looks at me for a moment before dropping onto the sofa opposite.
“What?” I ask him. I have caught him just looking at me multiple times.
"Nothing. You seem different," he shrugs and gives me a small smile.
“Different how?”
"You just do. You don't act like other girls do."
“Um, okay.”
"Isn't that a good thing?" He asks, looking over at me.
“You tell me.”
"Um.." he scratches the back of his head. I wait for him to answer.
"Yes?" He bites his lip and frowns.
“I wouldn’t know if its a good thing or not. I don’t really hang out with many people.”
"Why don't you?" He gets up and sits next to me. "I've never really seen you with anyone besides that boy."
“People don’t like me.”
"What?" He leans back and looks at me. "Why don't they like you? You seem great."
“They just don’t.” I say. “I don’t know why. I haven’t ever done anything to anyone. They ignore me.”
"Well, we should change that." He grins and leans his elbows on his knees.
“It wont change. Erica hates me and lots of people are afraid of her.” I chuckle as he snorts and shake his head. “Well maybe not in your grade, but in mine.”
"Maybe. But they shouldn't be. She isn't that great," he pursed his lips and looked at me. "Who's the boy that you're always with?"
“Owen.”
"Doesn't he date her?"
“Yeah.”
"So shouldn't people be nice to you or something?" He frowns. "The way our school works is strange."
“No, Erica hates me.”
"She shouldn't. You're a nice girl." He gives me a smile as Elliott appears in the doorway. I smile softly at them both.
"What you guys talking about?" Elliott asks as he sits down on the sofa.
“School.”
He nods his head. "I ordered pizza. It should be here soon."
“Okay.”
Elliott put the TV on and threw the remote over to me. "Put something on."
“Why me?”
"Because," he shrugs. I sigh and start looking for something. Jake starts humming and soon after Elliott joins in. I watch them as they look at each other and starts to sing one of the crappy advert tunes. I laugh. Both boys grin sheepishly as my laughter dies down.
