The sound of music startled me awake. "What is that?" I asked him, my voice still thick with sleep.
"That, I believe, is your phone, Lani-bear." Owen shifted and pulled me closer. "Why are they phoning this early?" He complained, burying his head in my neck.
"Can you hand me my phone?" He reaches for it and hands it to me. I answer without looking at the caller I.D. "hello?"
"Lani, where are you?" Elliott's voice cracks through the speaker of my phone. "You never went home yesterday, and your mum said she didn't know where you were."
"Oh God, I forgot to tell her..." I say. "I'm at Owen's."
"You stayed at Owen's?" He asked quietly.
"Yeah, I did. Why?" I asked him, frowning.
"We were all worried. We couldn't get a hold of anyone. Not even Owen or his parents."
I sighed. "I'm sorry. I guess I didn't hear my phone. I better phone my parents and let them know where I am. Thanks, El."
"No problem." He says. "Is everything okay?"
"Yes it is."
I heard him sigh. "Bye, love." He put the phone down before I had a chance to respond.
"Bye." I say quietly.
"Who was it?" Owen asked, lifting his head from my chest to look at me.
"El-Elliott. I forgot to call my parents So everyone was worried since they couldn't get a hold of me."
He frowned. "Why didn't they just phone the house? I'm sure my mum could have answered it."
"They did. They couldn't Hey a hold of anyone."
"Really?" He pursed his lips. "I bet my dad used it and never charged it after." I nod and dial my house phone.
"Hello?" My mum answers the phone.
"Hi mum, I'm at Owen's."
"Lani, thank god." I heard her sigh. "Why didn't you phone and tell us?" She asked, a disapproving edge to her tone.
"I'm sorry, I forgot. I was really tired."
She sighed again. "As long as you're okay, Lani."
"I'm sorry mum."
"It's okay," she said. "How are you and Owen doing now?"
I look at Owen. "We're good." Owen smiled and leant on his elbows. I watched him warily as he moved his head closer and kissed my neck.
"I'm not sure when I'll be home. Later probably." I try to ignore him kissing my neck.
"Okay, sweetie." She said. "What about you and Elliott? He was kind enough to come round last night?" I nudged Owen to try and get him to stop kissing down my neck to my chest.
"We're friends, I don't want to lose him." Owen grinned at me as he kissed my stomach.
"I know you don't, sweetie. I was just asking whether you two were still friends," my mum said, I could hear the smile in her voice.
I hit Owen's head lightly. "Yeah I'm pretty sure we can be."
He silently chuckles as I start to squirm on the bed. "That's good, hun. What are you two going to get up to today?" I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to focus on what she was saying.
"Movie day, but I'm hungry so I think I'm going to drag him with me to the grocery store."
She chuckled. "Okay, sweetie. I'll let you go now. Have a good day. Phone us if you're not coming home again, bye."
