Chapter twenty-Seven:

I leant back in my chair and sighed. Owen was carrying a tray with my latest cravings on it towards me while I swung backwards and forwards on the swing in his garden. He comes up to me, smiling.

"Here you go," he said, placing the tray down next to me. I nodded and picked up a carrot stick. He sighs. "Are you mad at me?" I shrugged and didn't respond. “Lani-bear.”

"What, Owen?" I snapped.

“Please will you just talk to me?” I looked away from him and bit my lip. “Please."

he begs. I felt my bottom lip waver. He sounded upset that I wasn't talking to him.

“Please, Lani-bear.” I took a deep breath and shook my head. He closes his eyes and sits down. I couldn't stand seeing him this upset but I had to stand by what I said I would do. I grab another carrot stick and eat it. "Lani, please!" He turned to look at me and held onto my arm. I look at him, I feel so bad for not talking to him. "Lani-bear, please. What have I done wrong?"

“You should know, you've been the one sneaking around behind my back.” I snap.

He frowned. "Sneaking around-? Lani-bear, what are you on about?"

“Erica.”

His frown faltered but then he quickly composed himself. "What about her?"

“Like I said: Sneaking around.”

His whole expression dropped. "No, Lani-bear-"

“Oh really, because Owen that's what it looks like.”

"I'm not sneaking around with her!" He threw his arms out and a hurt expression crossed his face.

“That's not what it looks like Owen! For God's sake I'm pregnant with your baby! I'm supposed to be your girlfriend!”

He stood up and started to pace. "Lani, please."

“Why?”

"I'm not sneaking around with her!"

“Then what the hell are you two doing?!” Before he can even answer I get up and brush past him.

"Lani-bear," he lightly grabbed my arm and spun me around to face him.

“What?”

"Don't go," he whispered, biting his lip. His eyes flicked between mine.

“I'm not going to sit here like this.”

He ran his hands over his face. "Lani-bear, please, I-" he stopped.

“You what?”

"I'm sorry," he whispered.

“Sorry isn’t what I want.”

"I can't tell you," he said through gritted teeth.

“I'm your girlfriend, your best friend, you should be able to tell me anything.”

He sighed. "Lani-bear, please, trust me on this."

“You should be able to trust me enough to tell me.” I rubbed my eyes and looked up at him through my lashes. "Owen."

“Yes?”

"What aren't you telling?" I felt my eyes tear up. He doesn’t answer me. "Please," I whispered, using my last resort to get him to tell me. He still doesn’t say anything. I took a deep breath and turned away, ready to leave his garden.

“Lani-bear..”

"I'm leaving, let me go." He lets go and I walk away. I walk around his house and leave. Even though its winder and there should be snow I'm glad there's not any since I have to walk home. I am not going to as him if he'll take me home. I sighed and wrapped my arms around myself. It was chilly but I wouldn't go back and ask for a ride. I walk down the street and turn the corner. its a good thing we live close. None of the lights were on, so my parents must have been out for dinner. I close the door and lock it behind me before walking upstairs to take a shower.
