As can be expected people tried their best to stay clear of me. Walking down the halls all I could hear was the new phrase everyone loved to chant: ' Black blood, bad blood '. Sometimes during the day it just got too overwhelming so I chose to go and sit by the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Right now was one of those times. I listened closely to the sound of the wind passing through the branches of the tall, old trees. The faint chirping of birds. Beautiful scents of magical plants passed through in the breeze. I was able to spend this time alone as most people were up in their dorms by now. However they weren't. I heard a loud noise coming from the top of the hill with the Whomping Willow. There was a high pitched scream that I instantly recognised to be Ron Weasley. I looked around so I could see what was going on and noticed Hermione and Harry going into the base of the Whomping Willow. This confused me but ignored it. That is until I saw Uncle Remus go down, then I got interested. Even more so when Snape arrived.
Harry's POV:
Everything went by so quickly. One minute Ron is being dragged under the Whomping Willow by a familiar big, black dog and the next I'm learning that Sirius Black and Professor Lupin are best friends. Him being Shauna's godfather suddenly made so much sense.
"Expelliarmus!" A voice suddenly rang from the doorway. A wands flew from our hands, we looked over and saw Snape! He had a smug look on his face. He looked over at Black and said, "ah, vengeance is sweet. How I hoped I would be the one to catch you.
"Severus --"
"I told Dumbledore you were helping your old friend into the castle. And here's the proof."
"Brilliant! And -- as usual -- dead wrong. Now give us our wands back. Remus and I have a bit of unfinished business to tend to." Black stated wanting to move on with what he came to do.
"Give me a reason. I beg you."
"Don't be a fool, Severus!"
"He can't help it. It's habit by now."
" Listen to the pair of you. Quarrelling like an old married couple. The creature and the criminal." After Snape made that comment I decided they were distracted with each other so I secretly reached around Hermione and pulled her wand out of her pocket. I was about to use Expelliarmus on Snape but something beat me to it. A dog jumped out from the darkness pushing Snape over and his head came into contact with the bed behind him, knocking him out. The dog looked familiar. It was big and black, like Sirius Black's animagus but not as big. Wait, it couldn't be, could it?
" What the hell are you playing at?" Lupin asked the dog. He had a very angry look on his face as the dog just sat on the floor watching Black. Black was looking back into the dogs eyes. Black started to well up so I spoke.
" You said Peter before, Peter who?"
"Pettigrew. He was at school with us. We thought he was a friend." Lupin clarified, Black still staring at the dog.
"No. Pettigrew's dead. He killed him." I point accusingly at Black.
"I thought so, too. Until you mentioned seeing Pettigrew on the Map."
"The Map was lying then --"
"The Map never lies. Pettigrew's alive. And he's right there." Black suddenly had a new glint in his eyes. As if he wanted to prove a point. Black was now pointing over at Ron who had gone white with fear.
"M-me? He's a lunatic..."
"Not you, you idiot. Your rat."
"Scabbers? Scabbers has been in my family for --"
"Twelve years. A curiously long life for a common garden rat. He's missing a toe, isn't he?" The dogs ears perked up at this at pulled a piece of paper from Black's pocket. He murmured a 'thank you' and took it from the dogs mouth. He unfolded the paper and revealed the newspaper clipping from when the Weasleys went to Egypt.
"So what?" Ron asked.
" All they could find of Pettigrew was his--" I started.
"Finger. Dirty coward cut it off so everyone would think he was dead. Then he transformed into a rat." Black sneered looking down at Ron's rat.
"Show me." I said. The dog jumped towards Ron, violently it grabbed Scabbers while Ron was in hysterics. Black took the rat giving the dog a loving pat on the head. Black dumped Scabbers down onto an old piano. Then Lupin and him began trying to hit him with a spell. Finally, they managed to get him. The rat contorted and suddenly settled on a small, scrawny man. I assumed this was Peter Pettigrew.
" S-Sirius... R-Remus. My old friends." Pettigrew tried to make a break for the door but the dog bit his leg, pulling him back into the room. Sirius patted her head and said 'good girl'.
"Harry! Look at you! Y-you look just like your father. Like James. We were the best of friends, he and I --" Pettigrew stuttered out. The dog growled at him and Black burst out shouting:
" How dare you speak to Harry! After what you've done!"
"I didn't mean to! The Dark Lord, you have no idea the weapons he possesses! Ask yourself what you would have done, Sirius. What would you have done!"
" I would have died! I would have died rather than betray my friends." The dog nuzzled its face into Black's proudly. He smiled fondly at the dog however Lupin still had a disapproving look in his eyes.
Time rolled on and different event took there toll. Remus dismissed the dog back to the castle, not before Sirius kissed the top of its head. Professor Lupin transformed into his werewolf form. Sirius almost died because of the Dementors kiss, and I thought I saw my Dad but it turned out to be me. Sirius was gone. He had to go into hiding. I soon realised that I had done something absolutely terrible. I have to apologise for what I've done to Shauna.
