\Five - Earth Kills\

X

The process of healing a stab wound this aggressive wasn't a gentle recovery. I was sure the entire camp would have preferred Jasper and me to die in our sleep. I couldn't blame them if they did. After all, I was hoping for the same thing.

Someone changed my bandages as Clarke tended to Jasper. "The grounders cauterized the wounds. It saved their lives."

"Only so they could string them up as live bait," Finn scoffed at Clarke's observation.

"Wait," Clarke said, and I let out a whimper at the pain Clarke caused by running her hand over my wound.  "The wounds are infected, they could be septic."

Of course. Why not.

A few words had been exchanged between whoever resided in the room, as I attempted to tune out the world, and all the ugly noised it had to offer.

Out of nowhere, a searing hot, bubbling pain was laid over the already festering wound.

I had been through quite the list of uncomfortable situations, but never had I been burned before. I lost any semblance of control over my vocal cords and body, and my ears began to sing in that awful pitch.

"Hold her down!" Clarke commanded. "I need to cut away the affected flesh."

-

When I, unfortunately, woke again, I was in a much more uncomfortable state of pain as I had been previously. I could still feel the heat swirling under my undoubtedly charred skin.

"Hey-hey-hey, you've slept for nearly two days. " My blurred vision gave me a sub-par view of Octavia's bright and smiling face. She gave me a drink of something that tasted awful, then pressed a cool rag onto my forehead before swiping stray hairs away from my eyes. " You know, right after you screamed loud enough for the damn ark to hear, Bell came up here and threatened Jasper. Even though you were the one makin' a fuss. . ." She paused, looking over to Jasper for a few seconds, then turned back to my with her lips pursed and nose crinkling. "I think my big bro has a thing for you, Grey."

I responded with a huff.

"Oh, c'mon. If my brother has a crush on you, you can't die. We can't let him live that d-" I coughed, and she stopped mid-sentence,then shouted. " CLARKE!"

"Oh my god." I heard Monty aswell, "CLARKE! IT'S GREY, SOMETHING'S WRONG!"

Soon Octavia, Monty, Finn, and Bellamy were all calling for Clarke. I coughed again, this time, I could feel liquid drip out of the corner of my mouth, it was becoming harder and harder to breathe.

"Grey? Grey, I need you to stay awake for me, okay? Don't fall asleep. Grey? Grey, stay awake." Octavia gripped my face, and I could hardly see her silhouette over me. "Grey, please. You're my best friend, you can't quit on me now."

"Oh my god. She-her- her lungs are filling with liquid." Clarke said, suddenly beside me.

"What does that mean?" Bellamy questioned.

"It means that her body must've gone into shock and she's having a heart attack. She isn't getting enough oxygen, her heart is failing."

"Well? Do something!" Bellamy yelled at Clarke.

"I need a small tube. I need to drain her lungs, before she drowns in her own blood." Clarke informed the people around her. More coughing, more blood. She was tossed something. "C'mon, Grey. Stay with us."

She cut into my side and I lay gasping for air. Tears welled in my eyes. The black dots that had begun to cover my vision evaporated, and I took a large breath, suddenly able to breathe.

"Someone, get her some water, please," Clarke said.

"Stop scaring me like that." Octavia cried out, grasping onto my hand.

Bellamy handed his sister a cup of water, and he smiled fondly at her, and then to me, before turning the other way.

-

Octavia, Monty, and Finn were at the foot of the beds, passing some form of liquid around.

From beside me, Jasper spoke up. "Can I get some of that?"

I smiled, looking at the gangly boy beside me.

We were alive. For now.
