Marceline

"Cupcakes are in the back, my stuff is in the trunk, the flowers for your mom are with the cupcakes... I think we have everything."

Liam nodded as he got into the drivers seat. He was wearing a gray shirt with long sleeves, but he rolled them up to his elbow, and black jeans. He was also wearing a batman snap back hat, and black sunglasses.

I was wearing skinny jeans, and a dark purple hoodie, with a black tang top underneath. I had a matching hat to Liam's on. My hair was straightened. Liam insisted I wear sunglasses so we wouldn't get noticed, so I agreed. He gave me the typical huge brown sunglasses you see girls wearing all the time.

I got into the car after him, and we started our drive to the hospital.

Liam seemed nervous. He was tapping the wheel with his fingers, and his left leg was bouncing up and down. His eyes were on the road, but I could tell he wasn't centered on driving.

"Liam?" I put my hand on his right, and he blinked a few times. His gaze snapped to mine for a second, then back to the road. "I can tell something's wrong. I went to college for being able to read people. What's the matter?"

He sighed, and slouched a little. He intertwined our hands together and placed them between us. "I just feel like seeing all the people who's lives changed in my building... I don't know. I'm just, nervous I guess." Liam shrugged, and sighed.

"It'll be okay Liam. No one blames you for what happened. Those four men did this. They're the ones who did all of this, not you. Everyone will be very appreciative that you're thinking of them when you bring them some cupcakes."

Liam let off a light laugh, and had a small smile on his face. He glanced at me and sighed. "What did I do to have you come back into my life? I don't deserve this."

"Oh course you do, Li." I played with the ring that was on his pointer finger. He always wore it.

The rest of the ride was silent. It was a comfortable silence though. I played with his ring, and his shirt sleeve as he drove. He would occasionally move his thumb across my hand.

Once the car was parked, and turned off, Liam turned to me and smiled a little bit. "Thank you for coming, Marcy. You don't know how much I appreciate it."

"Anytime Liam. I'll always be here for you." I placed my lips on his quickly. He kissed me slowly and carefully, not moving too much, and not being to aggressive.

Liam looked at me lovingly when we pulled away, and I pecked his nose before getting out of the car. I fixed my hat and sunglasses before opening the back door. I grabbed the flowers, and Liam grabbed the cupcakes.

He took my hand in his as we walked through the parking garage. Instead of taking the stairs, we took the elevator up to the main floor of the hospital.

The receptionist looked at us strangely as we walked towards him. He stopped typing on his computer when we got to him.

"Good morning, how may I help you two?" he asked in an uneasy voice.

Liam put the cupcakes down and took of his glasses. "Hi, I'm Liam Payne. My mother, Karen Payne, and also, I think about eleven, of my employees are in this hospital. I would appreciate if you could give me their room numbers please."

The man looked frazzled as he looked up at Liam. He blinked and typed on his computer quickly. "Um, the fourth floor, the C wing. The entire area was blocked off, and is guarded by security."

"Thank you very much." I said as nice as I could while Liam pulled me towards the other elevator.

He tapped his foot the entire time to the fourth floor. I let my thumb run across his hand, and I looked up at him most of the ride. He just looked forward.

I know he's probably as nervous as ever. Even though he doesn't have a reason to be.

Once to the floor, the security let us pass right away. I waited on the hallway as Liam went from room to room, giving cupcakes, and talking for a little bit.

After eleven rooms, we came to the one at the end of the hall. Liam took my hand after he opened the door.

We walked in together, and I saw Karen on the hospital bed, looking tired, and very pale. Geoff was next to her on a chair, holding her hand.

"Hi mum," Liam said smiling sofly. We walked up to her bedside, and he put the last two cupcakes on the table. I placed the flowers down next to them.

"Hi honey. Hello Marceline. How are you two?" Karen smiled at us.

Liam looked down at me, and I nodded, smiling. "Well mum, I asked Marceline to be my girlfriend, and she said yes."

"Obviously, Liam, I can see your hands, you know." She smiled at him.

"How are you mum? What'd the doctor say?" Liam let go of my hand and sat in the only other chair in the room, I stood behind him, putting my hands on his shoulders.

"I'm okay. Just sore, and tired. They're monitoring me for a few more days, then I'll be released. The surgery was simple, and everything went well. Don't worry about me."

"I'll always worry mum, you got shot. How about you dad, how are you doing?" Liam lifted his hand and grabbed mine from over his shoulder. He squeezed, and I ran my thumb across his hand.

"I'm alight. Just my arm, nothing I can't handle. I have to keep it in this stupid sling for the next month though. Now I know how you feel with that thing Marceline! It's absolute torture." Geoff looked down at his arm and rolled his eyes.

"I've leaned to live with it. I barely notice it now." I smiled at Geoff. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Karen looking at Liam and I with a grin.

I was going to say something else, but she beat me to it. "I always knew you two would end up together. From the moment you two started to become better friends, I knew it."

"Mum, we just started dating." Liam said lilting his head and slouching. He was embarrassed.

"It doesn't matter. You two are together, I was right." she smiled widely at us.

Liam was about to speak again. I knew it wouldn't be good, so I flicked the back of his neck. He shut up fast.

"We are together, and I'm glad to be. You two raised a good man." I ran my hand through Liam's short hair for a second.

"We did do a good job, didn't we dear?" Geoff grabbed Karen's hand again, and they looked lovingly at each other.

"Considering all that he has done, I would definetly say so."

"I am right here, you know that, right? But thank you, I love you guys." Liam stood up, our hands separating, and my fingers falling from his hair.

He leaned over his mother and hugged her for a long time. I heard both of them whisper 'I love you'. Liam hugged his dad quickly, and turned back to me.

"We leave for London tomorrow, so I won't see you two for about a week. I love you, and I hope you guys won't miss me too much." Liam took my hand and started for the door.

"Bye Geoff, Karen! Get better soon!" I said as Liam pulled me out of the room. Once the door was closed, Liam kissed me quickly.

He pulled away and started to walk away, still pulling me with him. I just followed, still a little confused of what just happened in the room, and right now.

Neither of of talked the rest of the way to the car. It wasn't a long walk, but it wasn't short either. It was spent in silence.

"Liam? Are you alright?" We were in the car when I finally asked this. I reached over and put my hand on the back of his neck. He sighed and leaned into my touch.

"I don't know."

I frowned as I stared at him. Something was wrong with him, and he was keeping it in. He knows what's wrong. He just doesn't feel like talking about it. I understand now.

"Okay baby." I moved my hand to his, and he started to drive to my apartment.

Hopefully this'll get better soon. It kills me to see him like this.
