Side Story: All About Toby

"Toby, time for school." Yelled his mom up the stairs.

"What time is it?" Groaned Toby.

"It's 8:30, get dressed and get down here, NOW!" Yelled his mom.

"Fine." Said Toby standing up to get dressed.

Toby came downstairs and got his bowl of oatmeal.

"Eat quickly, we have to go in 5 minutes." Said his mom looking for her keys. "Oh and, I got an office job so I can't drive you and neither can Lena, but maybe one of your friends can pick you up for a few months while I try it out."

"Sure, I'll ask some of my friends." Said Toby finishing his oatmeal.

"Ok well get your but in the car your going to be late." Said his mom opening the door.

Toby ran out the door in front of his mom with his backpack in hand.

At school...

"Hi Toby." Said Courtney.

"Hi Courtney." Replied Toby smiling and looking down.

"For today's class we get to work in partner's for our hands on global sighting, each pair will get a globe and a worksheet, the first one to complete and get all correct will get 2 pieces of candy each, please find a partner and then come see me." Said the teacher sitting back down at her desk.

"Wanna be partners?" Courtney asked Toby.

"Sure." Said Toby looking up and smiling.

They got their items and found two desks to work at.

They worked together for about ten minutes and finished, they went to the teacher to check their work, they were the first to get them all correct.

They received their candy and went back to their seperate desks.

Why can't I just talk to her normally?! Thought Toby to himself.

Lena, I need your help. Asked Toby with his mind.

I'm in the middle of a test, tell me later. Replied Lena.

"Toby Anderson!" Said the teacher as he looked up.

"Yes?" Asked Toby.

"I asked you a question." Said the teacher with her arms crossed.

"Oh, sorry." Said Toby with a sad look as everyone one laughing at him in their minds, he could tell, except Courtney.

"Now, if you would pay attention, do we live in the northern or southern hemisphere?" Asked the teacher.

"Rhoad Island is in the northern hemisphere." Said Toby locating it on his worksheet.

"Correct!" Said the teacher asking another student a question.

At lunch...

"Dude, go talk to her." Said one of Tobys friends.

"I can't just walk up to Courtney Rochester, the cutest girl in the entire 4th grade and talk to her." Complained Toby.

"Fine I'll go talk to her." Said another of his friends standing up and walking over to Courtneys table.

"No wait!" Said Toby racing after him.

"Hey Courtney, my friend here any to say something to you." Said Tobys friends pushing him in front.

"What is it?" Asked Courtney staring into Tobys eyes.

"Um," Started Toby. "Gotta go, see ya." Toby ran off back to his seat.

"Why the heck did you make me do that?" Yelled Toby at one both of his friends.

At Courtneys table...

"What was that all about?" Asked one of her friends.

"I don't know but he's cute." Said Courtney smiling and looking down.

All of the girls gasped and awed.

"Stop it!" Yelled Courtney.

"We all know you like him and he clearly likes you so," Started another of her many friends.

"So what?" Asked Courtney.

"So, you should hang out together." Said a different friend than before.

"Everyone knows elementary school relationships never last." Objected Courtney.

"Go talk to him, he clearly tried." Said her friend.

"Ok fine." Said Courtney standing up and walking over to their table.

"Hey boys," Started Courtney. "Hi Toby." Continued Courtney staring at him and smiling.

Toby looked down but everyone else stared at her.

She walked around and lent down next to Toby, "Meet me by the pond during reeces." Whispered Courtney walking away.

They smiled at each other once she had sat back down at her table.

At reeces...

"Hi Toby." Said Courtney approaching the pond.

"Hi Courtney, what did you want to talk about." Asked Toby.

Courtney sighed. "I like you."

Toby smiled. "I like you too."
