A few weeks have passed since I played Mario Party with the guys. It was now Wednesday, the day that Aleks and Sly were flying in. Since then, I met Max's girlfriend Renay and Jordan's wife Monica. Both of them were lovely, and I hoped that I would get along with Aleks and Sly as much as I got along with them. Seamus also helped me to set up a channel, under the name of SamShutter, a nod to the shutter of a camera. Seamus thought it was silly, but I liked it. Jordan talked to me about becoming a member of the group, and things would become official once Aleks and Sly were moved in.
That afternoon I chose to wear dark blue straight leg jeans, a black tank top, and an over sized dark gray, red, and white flannel since I knew the Denver airport was slightly chilly. After lacing up my worn out black keds and putting on mascara, I grabbed my wallet and went downstairs to meet with the others.
"There she is! I was just wondering where you were," Dan said, the camera now rolling and on me. I grinned and tucked my wallet into the front pocket of my flannel. "Alright, let's go!" Jordan said, leading us all out to the garage. Seamus and I rode in his car, while Jordan, Dan, Max, and James rode in Jordan's. Max and James would ride in Seamus' on the way back, with Sly and Aleks taking their place.
Seamus let me have control of the aux cord on the ride to the airport. I played from a playlist I'd jokingly dubbed as "small town coffee shop aesthetic", inspired from what Seamus had called my music before. It was predominantly instrumentals and began with the song 'Kids Will Be Skeletons' by Mogwai.
"What are Sly and Aleks like?" I asked him as we drove on the highway. He merged into the left lane and shifted slightly in his seat. "Well, they're best friends. Aleks has a pretty unique sense of humor but in a good way. I call him emo because his hair is ridiculous. Sly is really energetic and hyper, and he tends to giggle a lot. But he's a really nice guy and would give you the clothes off his back if it was all he had left. And they're both really great musicians," he told me. I nodded and gazed out the window.
Like I'd chosen to do when Marie told me about the Creatures initially, I decided not to look up the two best friends online. I wanted to be completely surprised, and know them as actual people and not how the internet portrayed them.
We were quiet during most of the ride, but it was the nice kind of quiet. A song called 'To All of You' by Syd Matters came on, and I was really surprised that Seamus began humming along to it.
"What happened to my music being only for hipsters that spend too much time in cafes?" I asked him. He laughed and shrugged. "I just really like this song. I used to listen to it a lot when the album first came out, a friend of mine listened to them." I smiled, and a few minutes later we were at the airport. Dan began filming after we went through security, and all we could do after that was wait for Aleks and Sly to get off their flight at 3.
I went over and bought a caramel macchiato from a nearby Starbucks, and as I walked back up the guys, I saw James leap up. "There they are! Dumb asses don't even see us yet," he laughed. I grinned, but I couldn't tell who James had spotted. Jordan called out their names, and then two figures turned around.
They were very contrasting in physical appearance. One appeared to be of Latino descent, with a neat goatee and black faux-hawk. He also wore glasses and had a purple and black striped zip up jacket. The other was extremely pale, with long dark brown shaggy hair beneath a black beanie. He had a slightly pointed nose and was wearing a black Machinima shirt underneath a red zip-up jacket. I assumed he was Aleks and that the first was Sly, due to Seamus' note of Aleks looking pretty emo.
They both grinned and walked towards us. "Hey, guys!" Sly yelled, receiving looks of annoyance from several haughty business men and women. He giggled, and I immediately knew that my assumptions were correct. "You gotta be Sam! I'm Eddie, but you can call me Sly instead if you want!" he said loudly and gave me a huge hug. I tried desperately to keep my coffee from spilling all over him, and to my relief, someone took it out of my hand before I had the chance to give him any degree of burns.
"I like her! I think we're gonna be best friends, come on!" Sly said after letting go of me. He linked my arm with his and started to walk quickly through the airport and to the parking garage. I laughed at his enthusiasm and looked over my shoulder to see the rest of the group laughing as well, and Aleks looking vaguely pink.
As we made our way to the parking garage elevators, Sly seemed to realize that he had no idea as to where Jordan or Seamus parked. "Shit! I guess we gotta wait for them," he said cheerfully. A few seconds later, they rounded the corner.
"Sly, did you have to drag our newest edition through the Denver airport like a rag doll?" Jordan asked incredulously, leading us to where their cars were at. "I was hazing her. Gotta make sure she can put up with my bullshit," Sly said with a giggle the following suit. I smiled, thankful that was his definition of hazing.
Seamus chuckled and got into his car. I got into the passenger seat, accompanied by Max and James in the back. Sly waved to us as we pulled out before Dan yelled at him to get his ass in the car. As Seamus drove back to Littleton, I was asked about what I thought of Sly and Aleks.
"Well, Aleks didn't say much, but you were right when you said he was emo," I said, looking at Seamus. James and Max laughed, and Seamus nodded. "I do know everything," he said in his usual sarcastic tone. "But I really liked Sly! He seems really nice, and I'm glad that he seems to like me," I added. "Just don't ever insult Kingdom Hearts or Pokemon around him, he'd probably stab you in the kidney," James said laughing.
The drive back went by a lot faster than the one there because of James and Max cracking jokes, but I enjoyed being alone with Seamus more. We got back to the house a few minutes before Jordan and the others, where I proceeded to make a pot of coffee. My original didn't make it back to the car, and I'd only taken a sip or two of it. James was heating up some taquitos in the microwave while Seamus watched me make coffee from the table in the kitchen when the rest of the group burst into the kitchen.
"Hot damn, it smells good in here!" Sly said loudly, spotting me at the coffee maker. I grinned, and Jordan led Aleks and Sly to their respective rooms. I poured myself a cup and decided to make Seamus one too. He thanked me as I sat down and handed it to him, and we drank in silence as James took his plate of taquitos upstairs.
Our few moments of blissful quiet were interrupted by Sly laughing excitedly and running into the kitchen. "GIRL! WE ARE TAKING YOU OUT FOR DINNER TONIGHT!" he yelled. I almost choked on my coffee, and managed a strained, "What do you mean?"
Seamus raised his eyebrows at Sly. "I just talked to Jordan and we're all gonna go out to a restaurant tonight and make you an official Creature! He must really like having you as part of the channel to make you one so fast! Both of you better be ready by 5:30 or heads will roll!" he exclaimed, proceeding to run back to his room.
I stared at Seamus, knowing that I looked bewildered. He laughed and looked at the clock. "It's 4 now. Come on, we should probably get ready. You're far too beautiful for Sly to behead you anytime soon," he said, smiling. He left the kitchen, and I took a moment to process and appreciate what he just said before heading upstairs to change and prepare for whatever tonight was going to bring.
