My blood began to boil not even a second after the texts were sent. "Are you FUCKING kidding me? She's here?" I groaned, tossing my phone to James, who quickly read the texts. "Damn, that's not cool," he muttered, setting my phone onto the table between our beds.
I felt angry tears begin to surface for the first time since James and I began to hang out more, and I was mad that I was getting upset again. Could I really not just be okay with the fact that I'm just not what he wanted? Or was it the fact that he strung me along and said the most basic, hopeless romantic shit you only see in cheesy rom-coms, physically and verbally flirting with me ever since the first fucking day I got here, telling me almost flat out that I was his ideal girl, just to then tell me it's too 'dangerous' for us to date and then go out with some chick less than a week later? I think it's that last bit.
My phone buzzed again. "Yeah sure, I hope your girlfriend doesn't mind a bunch of weirdos like us," Jordan texted back. Seamus replied with a smiley face, which was nearly nauseating to see. Jordan said that everyone should head down to the lobby in 20 minutes and then stopped with the texts.
"Well James, say good bye to your precious bed and hello to painkillers," I teased, digging out a bottle of ibuprofen from inside a pair of his socks. "NOOOOOOOO! I DON'T WANT TO GO," he yelled into his pillow, sounding like a little kid before a doctor's visit. Despite this, he sat up and took 2 before cracking his back.
I grabbed some high waisted blue jeans and a floral tank top with a lacy v-neck and a long sleeved black cardigan that hung below my pockets. I changed in the bathroom and tucked in my tank top. My boobs looked great, which was unusual. I quickly amended my makeup and decided to put on some light peach eyeshadow and do a soft brown wing. If I was meeting 'Ash' and potentially seeing her all over Seamus, I was going to look as good as I can and make him jealous.
I sprayed my hair with some beach wave mist I bought in the airport, which I thought was a weird place to carry it since Boston isn't exactly a beach filled paradise. It made my hair even wavier, almost wildly curly. I slipped on some black heeled boots I brought in case of a formal event, and grabbed the small black purse I'd brought as well. I slunk out of the bathroom and heard James emit a low whistle.
"Are you trying to give Seamus a heart attack?" he asked, grinning. I smiled back and said, "If he just so happens to clutch his chest and declare how stupid he was to pass me up, I may or may not be extremely pleased." He chuckled and passed me my phone. He had changed into dark blue jeans and a fitted, long sleeved black shirt that looked really good on his figure.
"Ready?" he asked. I nodded, feeling a slight twinge of fear about what would happen tonight. What if Ash was great and we became friends? What if I hated her guts and I punched her in the face? Did she know that Seamus was practically head over heels for me? James must have been able to tell how nervous I was, because he threw an arm around me and rubbed my shoulder. "You're gonna be fine, Seamus is gonna see how beautiful you look and feel like such a dip shit and Ash probably has no idea that you're here, unless she watches videos on the hub. She'll be completely blindsided," he said before taking his arm off me. I realized how cold I felt.
We walked up to the elevators and almost immediately went in. I felt stupid in these boots. Why was I wearing these? I came up to James' shoulder in them, so I know I'm taller than Seamus right now. I looked at my wafped reflection in the shiny metal of the doors. My jeans felt so tight and I looked like I was easy. I untucked my tank top and drew my cardigan closer to me. Did my breath smell bad? Did I have on too much perfume? God, these jeans are so fucking tight. I felt like I was going crazy.
The doors opened and I walked out with James, my hands shaking slightly. Jordan, Dan, and Max were already in the lobby, talking on a big couch. They looked up as we got closer because of my stupid boots making noises as we walked across the tile. "Samantha! You look great," Jordan said, seemingly surprised with my lack of hoodie or leggings. "Thanks, I just don't want fans to recognize me," I grinned nervously, even though I didn't really care if someone did recognize me.
"OOH CHICA TURN AROUND SO I CAN SEE YOU!" I heard Sly yell behind me. "Sly stop yelling! We're gonna get in trouble," Jordan said, looking around for any sort of hotel authority. I grinned and spun around, and Sly pretended to gasp and faint. "Who are you trying to impress?!" he said, fanning himself. I laughed and waved to Aleks, who was being quiet and pink in the face. He smiled sheepishly and waved back.
"Where are Seamus and Ash?" Sly asked. "Yeah, I wanna meet the girl dumb enough to date him," Aleks said in a clearly joking manner, but I couldn't help but spurt out a laugh before quickly stifling it. James smiled and shook his head at me. There were footsteps behind us as I was looking at James, and I heard Sly greet Seamus and introduce himself to Ash. I turned around and looked at who it was Seamus decided to date after turning me away.
She was completely normal looking, not like the she-devil I had imagined in my head. She was pretty but looked absolutely terrified, which was understandable. I felt a twang of sympathy for her, and saw that she was wearing a similar outfit to me. Her boots were Doc Martens and her tank top was covered in tiny white doodles of Saturn, and her cardigan was instead a dark gray jacket. I realized that it wasn't her that I was angry with.
"You must be Ash, I'm Sam. It's really nice to meet you," I smiled and held my hand out to her. She practically latched on. "Oh thank god, there's another girl," she grinned nervously, and I laughed. "That's how I feel 24/7," I said, letting go of her hand. Seamus turned and looked at me, surprise all over his face. I wasn't sure if it was surprise from how I looked, from the fact that I was going to go out with the group tonight, or that I was being nice to Ash.
"Okay, now that everyone is here, let's head out!" Jordan said, leading us to the doors. As I stepped out into the somewhat chilly Boston air, I couldn't help but worry about what the rest of the night would bring.
