When I arrive at my and Rose's special place I see that Rose is already here. As I park my car on the side of a little gravel road Rose walks up to my car. She gives me a big hug as soon as I step out of the car. "Hey Boo" she says "I missed you" she looks at me and smiles. "I'm not even gone yet" I laugh and Rose laughs too. "I know, but still, I can't believe you're leaving" Rose pouts. "Me neither, but we still have some time left today" I say and grab her hand to drag her with me to our special place.
It's basically a wooden platform somewhere on a mountain, but the view is absolutely beautiful! Especially at night, when all the city lights are on.
We sit down on the edge of the wooden platform and start talking about all kinds of things. I think Rose is the only person I like to have a good girl talk with. Just listening to her talk is very amusing, she can sometimes talk so focused and full of passion about something. It's really wonderful to see her like that. I love spending time with Rose. We've known each other since we were little, she was my neighbor for a few years until they moved a couple of blocks away. But even then we still saw each other every day after school. She has been there for me through everything and I love her to death. I seriously don't know where I would have been right now if I hadn't had Rose.
After Rose is done talking about some guy she likes I notice it has become darker outside. I see some lights have turned on in the distance and it is starting to slowly become the view that I love so much.
Rose and I used to come here almost every day. We would just talk like we do now or we would play games or sometimes even make our homework up here. Nobody ever comes here, besides us, and we've never told anybody about this place so we have the privacy to do whatever the fuck we want here. I remember one time I told my dad I was going to eat at Rose's house and she told her parents she was going to eat at my house, but secretly we had a little picnic here. When our parents found out that we weren't at the others house they freaked out and later that night when we got home we both got grounded for about a week. Even though we got grounded we had the best time at our little picnic, so it was kind of worth it.
In the distance I see all those pretty lights and I smile. I wish I could see this everyday, like we used to. If I had enough money, I would build my house up here. That's literally my dream, to live up here, seeing this beautiful view everyday before going to bed. Instead I'm going to live with my aunt in Bardstown.. The smallest ass city in Kentucky.. Okay that's not true, in Kentucky there are a lot smaller towns and villages and stuff, but compared to Lexington is Bardstown very very small. Not that I've ever been there before, but when you look at the numbers I could only assume it's quite small. I wonder if everyone there knows everyone.. if that even makes sense. I hope not, I don't want to be the weird new girl. But I guess I'll see that tomorrow. I assume, knowing my aunt, she's going to give me some sort of 'city tour'. I look forward to it.. not.
Talking about tomorrow, I look at Rose and say "I wish I could stay longer but I still have an hour drive ahead of me so I should leave". Rose looks at me disappointed and pouts "I don't want you to leave..". Me neither Rose.. me neither. But instead of saying what I really think, I say "I know, but it is time". Rose pulls me into her arms and hugs me tightly again. I pretend to suffocate and Rose laughs. "Promise me you'll call tomorrow! I want to hear every little detail" she says as soon as she lets go of me. "I promise" I assure her "by the way, it's not like I can survive over there without daily calling you, so always have your phone on you, okay?" I say laughing and Rose laughs along with me. "Promise" she says and holds out her pinkie. I smile and give her a pinkie promise, that is also something we did a lot when we were younger. And of course we never broke one.
We stand up and walk to my car together. After we give each other one last hug and even spill a few tears I get in my car, before I start to full on cry. We wave at each other and I honk two times as I drive away, leaving her standing there alone.
I'm gonna miss her.. I'm gonna miss this place.. and I'm sure as hell coming back here someday. But for now I'm taking this hour long drive to my new hometown, with no idea what to expect. Like I said earlier, you're never really prepared for what's next.
