As time ticked I sat at the piano waiting for Christine. She is always on time. What is different today?

"I'm sorry I'm late," Christine spoke laying down her shaw on an empty chair.

She better have not been with him. She promised me she would only focus on music.

Flipping the sheet music to the first page I snap myself back to reality.

"Daroga told me you have the lead role in 'Monticello.' "

"Yes, I do!" Christine said eagerly. Creating a large bright smile upon her face.

"Well then. Let's begin with her first song, 'Chandelier.'" I flip the book to the correct page. In which, Christine dose as well.

Placing my gloved fingers on the piano keys I begin playing the melody.

The night gets dark
The moon rises
The candles are lit

"Slowly, Breath." The melody rang putting me into a trance. Christine danced around the room practicing what might be her blocking.

The guest arrive
All in gown
Smiling faces, happy faces
The Chandelier shines
Sister, the guest have arrived!

I find myself joining in for the duet as her sister.

I can not wait
The princes will run to you
Will fall for you
You shine brighter than the chandelier

I can not wait/I can not wait
The guests have arrived

The melody slows as written in the script her sister leaves her. The princess is left alone on stage.

They will run to me.
The song quickly ends after a stretching 'me' to the next song.

"Good. You did well."

"Thank you. And thank you for singing the duet with me. I would have been lost."

"If I must sing a female part to make you better than I shall."

Song after song, I could hear Christine's voice grow. Her voice is growing into the soprano I know she is.  I dread the hours when we're apart. When Christine is by my side, I feel warm inside. Without her, I feel cold and angry.

I can't keep Christine out of my mind. I love her. I know this feeling is love. Secretly I pray, even if there is a god, that Raoul would leave or show a flaw. How couldn't she fall for him, he's rich and good looking. He doesn't have to hide in the shadows.

Before I knew it, it was morning. I haven't slept well for a while since the kissing incident. Daroga was awake eating a croissant. He seems to be deep in thought.

"Daroga?" I asked sitting in a wooden chair in front of him.

"It's Carlotta. She wants to be a lead role, not part of the chorus."

"Why does she believe that she must be the star? Can't she handle being Person #2?"

Daroga sighed, "That's not all of it. Carlotta's patrons will demand a refund if she doesn't sing."

Carlotta I can handle, but her patrons. That's a whole nother story. I know what I can do.

"Let her sing."

"I don't know...."

"I insist."

She will sing to bring down the Chandelier.
