Daehyun’s POV:
We sat there for about twenty minutes as Youngjae kept opening and closing his mouth debating on whether or not to talk to me. I watched as he began to mouth the words. I can’t believe he is going to finally talk to me! He took a deep breath and leaned closer, placing his mouth next to my ear. I could hear the flick of his tongue against the roof of his mouth and he tried to pronounce the D in my name. Before he could even form the rest, his apartment door busted down and the smirking man I saw earlier this morning was standing in the doorway fuming.
“Yoo Youngjae!” I glanced at Youngjae’s fear stricken face as he crawled back until he hit the wall. I stood up and in front of Youngjae to defend him.
“Back off Mr. Yoo.” The man in front of me scuffed and tried to move past me, but I wouldn’t let him.
“Step aside, Daehyun. My feud is not with you.” I stepped back surprised, but I still didn’t let Youngjae’s dad through.
“You know my name?” I questioned him. How could he? Even if he did stalk Youngjae, he’s never said my name before.
“Of course I know your name. Your name is Jung Daehyun. You are a spoiled rich kid who is engaged to be married to some company’s daughter.” I widened my eyes and glanced at Youngjae, who was staring at me in shock, confusion, and… betrayal…?
“Youngjae, it’s not what it seems, I swear. I ran away from that, because I didn’t want to marry someone I didn’t know.” I tried to explain, but he wasn’t really looking at me anymore.
“Yeah, so you ran away from home taking all your money with you. You couldn’t stand only having so many people adore you Daehyun, so you came here to have more people adore you.” I glared back at Mr. Yoo.
“No, that’s not true! I got away, because I didn’t want to be adored!” I screamed at the man, trying to contain the tears that wanted to slip past me. Don’t cry. Stay strong.
“Come on Youngjae, are you going to believe some spoiled rich kid who won’t even reveal his face to you,” I strained myself as Mr. Yoo grabbed my chin and forced me to look at Youngjae.
“Or, are you going to believe your father, who has always been there for you.” I pushed Youngjae’s appa away from me and looked at the quiet boy with pleading eyes. He looked away, tears already streaming down his cheeks and neck. I slowly backed away, making a run out the door. I ran down the stairs, instead of taking the elevator, and out of the building. I turned left and ran as fast as my legs could go, until I tripped on a curb and fell. I bowed my head, letting everything go, not caring if any one walking by thought I was weird, stupid, or a loser, because I was.
I was weird, because I couldn’t appreciate the life I had while in Busan. I was stupid, for letting some guy who doesn’t even know me, break my barrier and make me run away, again. Lastly, I was a loser, because I had lost someone who somehow made their way into my heart in less than a week and there was no way he wanted me now.
I had nowhere to go, no place to sleep, no one who cared. The only thing I could do was crawl into a ball and cry until I knew Youngjae wasn’t home. I’d go back to his apartment, pack my stuff, and go back home where my old life was waiting to ruin my future.
