Youngjae’s POV:
I watched as Daehyun ran out of my apartment crying and I couldn’t help, but feel like I should have said something. I stood up to run after him, when my appa caught my wrist in a death grip. I winced and turned to face him only to be punched in the face.
“Ah!” I cried out, clutching my cheek and letting more tears go. I didn’t deserve this… but neither does Daehyun… I’m glad he ran, and then he wouldn’t have to witness this… or deal with me… ever again… He needs someone stronger… better to be there for him… I let my mind think about Daehyun being happier without me as my father took his anger out on me.
“You are worthless, Youngjae. What did I say about talking? I told you not to speak at all and this guy comes into your life for three or four days and you think he is Superman here to save you! Ha! Did you see how fast he ran out the door? He couldn’t wait to get away from you. You’re so pathetic, Youngjae.” I felt one more kick to my side, before I heard the slamming of my front door. I laid there crying for what felt like hours. I didn’t feel like getting up at all, so I fell asleep in front of my couch like the wretched, no good person I was.

I woke up the next day to the sound of a door being opened. I stretched and rubbed my eyes, sitting up and locking eyes with Daehyun, who still had his mask on. I stood up fast and went to talk, but stopped myself.
“I thought you would be at work. I didn’t mean to wake you, Youngjae.” I shook my head and shrugged. “Well, I just came to get my stuff. I’m… heading back to Busan in about two hours. I won’t need you to get my information off the chip anymore, because it won’t matter once I’m back. My writing was only a distraction that I need to rid myself of anyways. I’m really sorry… about how things turned out, but I hope you have a good life Youngjae. And who knows, maybe one day we will meet again. Until then...” Daehyun walked over and picked up his bag. He pulled out a card and then stood in front of me.
“Here. This is my debit card. I have a spare back at home underneath my mattress, so you can keep this one. Take as much money as you need from it. I don’t really care.” He then pulled me into his arms. “Thank you for being my first real friend, Youngjae.” Before I could return the hug, he let go, grabbed his stuff, and left without another word or glance. I fell to my knees, crying my eyes out.
This feeling is way worse than being beaten by my own father. Daehyun…
