Wayward Mages

Chapter 5

Kaira

"Wait...PARENTS with a plural!" I shout! " I know my mom died three years ago but I didn't even think I had a dad!"

"Well everyone has parents," says Guardian. "Your mom and dad were the best mages I've ever trained." 

"Wait, how old are you exactly?" Guardian sighs again. "I'm 984 years old," she says. 

"What the hell!" Charlie and I shout together. 

"I thought you were only, like 200 or something!" says Charlie. 

"I thought you were, like, 35!" I shout. 

"Okay, calm down! Anyways, girls I need to tell you something very important so please, focus." says Guardian. She waits for our complete attention and we nod at her.

She takes a deep breath and begins her story.

"Your mother Julie Cordelia Stream was a girl just like any other, until she met your father Nicholas Burns. I didn't like his demeanor from the moment I met him, but your mother fell for him. It was like love at first sight. Except there was one problem your mom and dad came from rival clans. Your mother was from the Aqua clan and you father from Ignis. Obviously, they were opposites. Julie was as gentle as a bubbling brook and Nick as raging as a forest fire, but when he was with Julie, he was like an Aqua himself. Instead of going through all that trauma, they kept their relationship secret. They did that for many months until your mom's dad, your grandfather, found out and banned her from ever seeing him again. Your mother was heartbroken, but she was a headstrong young woman and continued to meet him. I advised her not to, but she never listened. I was the only person she told, because she used to meet him in my house, as it was safe. When I saw how deeply they were in love, I could not bring myself to tell your grandfather. That it seems, was my worst mistake. And years later, there was a horrible disaster and all hell broke loose.There was a raging war between the Aqua and the Ignis clan. There was huge and gruelling war that lasted almost 3 years. Your mom and dad escaped and took shelter in the human world for many years and after a couple of years had Charlene. Until, the Ignis clan found your parents and tortured Nick as he had disobeyed all of their rules. Nick survived but was badly hurt and they decided that they should split up for the best of both of them. Anyways at that time your mom was pregnant with you, Kaira. So your dad decided to take Charlene with him while your mom kept you.

"Well, at least in the end it worked out well."

We sit in silence for some time, and I'm brimming with unasked questions. I think that Char feels the same but Charlie says, "Is it time?" as eagerly as a little girl in a candy shop. Well, that proves my theory wrong. I could tell that she had been bursting with impatience to ask that since Guardian smiles wanly. "Yes, my dear, it's time." Charlene starts squealing. "What's going on?" I ask confused. "It's time to go back to our dimension!"

Authors' Note: Can anyone guess why they have soft gray eyes? It's cause fire and water.. We get steam, right? So gray steam...

Quick Fact: Mage means magician or learned person. There are 4 types of mages: Earth(Terra),  Fire(Ignis), Air (Aeris), and Water(Aqua).
