Chapter 10

Charlene

OMG!!! Kaira has a crush on Kyle...that is so cute! I'm already thinking up ship names for them...hmm...maybe...Kyla? Yeah, that's good...

Get your mind on the mission, Charlie! I scolded myself mentally. But I can't help letting my mind wander... The way that Kyle was staring at me creeped me out... I don't know what to do...

Ugh! Mission, Mission, Mission... I chanted to myself mentally.

That's it! I'm gonna go talk to Kaira. She wanted me to fill her in on transport... She's not gonna like it... She has severe motion sickness... How is she gonna take the news? I'll figure it out later.

I knock on her room door.

"Kaira? Are you there?"

"What do you want Charlie? I'm packing, like you said!"

"I have to tell you the transport stuff! You asked, remember?"

"Oh, yeah, come in."

I push her door open. Her room is decorated to her taste - covered in posters of who knows which books. I hadn't been in the mortal dimension for a long time, so I wouldn't know. I was more of a music person over there.

She's lying on her bed, bored. She props herself up.

"Is it a rocky ride?" is the first question she asks.

"Er...yeah, it is."

"What??? You know that I have motion sickness, Charlene!" she groans.

Uh oh, she's upset. She only calls me Charlene if she's upset. She usually calls me Charlie.

"Um, sorry?" I ask tentatively, "but we're travelling by a machine that's kind of like a cross between a car and a helicopter. It's called a 'Carcopter' and it is only used in very important missions."

"Oh. My. Gods. I'm gonna kill you!!!" says Kaira,enunciating every word. "It's gonna trigger my motion sickness!"

Well mostly I say....I can see the anger in her face and that her hands are clenching and unclenching into fists. I guess she doesn't want to make a fool of herself in front of Kyle. I better watch my back, I think.
