Luke's POV
Today Jonathan was busy, so I sent another guy down for her test. I wanted to see how she'd react when she wasn't fully prepared for the test, and the test wasn't gonna be what she expected. However, I didn't, at the time, realize that he was gonna test her on magical capabilities when I told him to try something new or different.
But hey, what's done is done, right?
Jonathan's planning to turn Kaira into a cyborg. I've managed to put him off for a year by putting extra useless work in his pile, but I can't do it forever. He keeps saying that she has amazing psychic capabilities, whatever that means. I honestly have no idea.
He only told me when he returned, and I didn't mind as much as Jonathan would have. I was still shocked, though.
Kaira can't turn into a cyborg! I have to protect her, it's all I live for. Well, that sounded a bit dramatic. But it is true, I would give anything and do anything to ensure Kaira's safety.
At that moment a small knock sounds on the door of my bedroom. I get up to open the door to find that no one standing on the other side, instead there is a note on the ground.
'Meet me at the place in about a half hour.' - Kaira
Well that's totally not weird...note the sarcasm. It's about 11 o'clock in the night now, and whatever she has to tell me must be important; or it could've waited till the morning.
I pull on some sweatpants and a loose white t-shirt, then carefully slip into my battered white tennis shoes. I also grab my black hoodie and put up the hood so no one will recognize me.
I have no idea why she wants to meet me...but I know that it's important.
I walk down the corridor a take the first second left. This pathway takes me to the back of the building and helps me escape to our 'secret place' without being noticed. The 'secret place' is an old abandoned safe house at the right corner of the main building. The safe house once used to house people who were hurt while at battle.
The safe house now has a light flickering in it, that I can see through the window. That's probably Kaira, so I jog to the main door and push it open.
Instead of seeing Kay like I expected, I saw none other than Jake. The guy who ditched Kay at the dance but ended up a mage. I have mixed feelings about the guy.
He must have heard me come in, because he offers me a small smile. I meet his smile with a scowl.
"How do you know about this place . . . never mind that, first of all, where is Kaira?" I ask him, confused.
"Well, she isn't here, is she?" he says, all the while smiling like a maniac.
At this point I can't control my anger. If Kaira is missing then, well, I don't what I will do with myself.
"I'm going to ask you again, WHERE. IS. KAIRA?"
He held up his hands. "Jeez man, you ain't gotta be so rude." he laughs at his own southern accent.
"I swear to god if you don't tell me where Kaira is right now I will NOT hesitate to murder you!"
Charlene enters the room, blasting the door off of its hinges, and looks around. When she sees the two of us together standing there doing god-knows-what, her eyes narrow. "WHERE IS KAIRA?" she bellows angrily. Ow, my poor ears hurt!
Charlene's POV
"Hot damn girl, protective much?"
Did he just say hot damn? What the actual heck is going on in my life, to make it in such a way that people are actually saying that? To answer his question, yes, I am protective of Kaira. It's not like she has an older brother to protect her, so I'm simply a placeholder for that. I have a feeling that Luke could be doing that too, but I know for a fact that Kaira thinks of Luke as a brother. He's not that protective either, he just likes goofing off and training with her,
Somehow, I always manage to be jealous of any boy that Kaira's close to. Obviously I know that Luke and Kyle are the same boy, but they have different personas. Like waaaaay different. He's become more of a fighter but he's still loyal to Kay, that's like the only thing I'm sure of anymore.
If you guys were wondering how I figured out that certain people would be here . . .
Well, I've been following Luke and Kaira around sometimes when they train and one time I came across them sneaking out of the building. Playing the role of the protective older sister, which I am, I followed them out to this safe house and have seen them meeting here a lot.
When I received the note I was perplexed, and was wondering if Kaira had discovered that I have been spying on them, but I brushed the thought away. The way she had written the note made me feel like I needed to be there right away, so I just rushed out of my room, slipping away into the shadows then quickly started making my way over to the shack.
Jake snaps his fingers in front of my face. "What?" I snap at him.
"QWERTYUIOPLKJHGFDSAZXCVBNMNBVCXZASDFGHJKLPOIUYTREWQ," he says randomly.
"What the hell did you just say?"
"Oh." Jake mutters, "I forgot that you've never seen a QWERTY keyboard."
I stare at him, confused. "QWERTY?"
"So we have these things called laptops in the real world, and when we're really bored we use them to search up useless things, and we input information into them using something called a keyboard. So the letters in the keyboard are arranged as QWERTYUIOPLKJHGFDSAZXCVBNM from top to bottom in a right, down, left, down, right pattern. There's three lines of letters and it has numbers and symbols surrounding it. Once I was so bored that I sat and wrote it all down from top to bottom and memorized it from top to bottom and then back. Whenever someone zones out on me I say it. I know, it's random but don't judge."
"Why were you so bored?" I say, while Luke says, "Who freaking cares about a keyboard?"
Jake winks. "That's a story for another day."
"Wait . . . WHERE THE HECK IS KAIRA?"
"Don't you get it you idiot? I sent you both that note, saying from Kaira at the bottom. That was probably the only way I could get you guys to come as soon as possible."
"But why would you want to talk to us?" I say suspiciously.
"I want to help you. I'll break Kaira out and get you to Mythlecis, BUT only on one condition: you have to bring me to the real world too."
