I woke up alone in my bed. Dylan was gone. Sounded like he was making breakfast, I could hear sizzling bacon, and eggs, and I could hear Ben banging his hands against the tray on his high chair. I rolled over and stared at the black leather book on Fang's nightstand. It was open and flipped over marking a spot. I hadn't touched it to even look at what it was. A poem book, a biography, novel, no clue. All I knew was I wasn't ready to put it away, touch it, let alone look at it. I sighed, got up and ready for the day.
"Mommy!" Ben came running into my bedroom," good morning mommy!" He hugged my leg.
"Good morning Benny!" I knelt down and gave him a big hug.
"We fly?" His smile was huge, his eyes sparkling.
"Yes after breakfast, go see if daddy has breakfast ready." I smiled.
"Okay!" He happily ran off in his orange footie pajamas and messy hair.
"Daddy?" I said to myself. I mean I guess it was okay to have Ben call him that, but me? Was I finally moving on? Well I guess last night should've cleared that right up, it was weird not having a cloud fogging my thoughts, everything was clear.
I was actually very happy, everything felt right, perfect. Maybe we were meant to be together, to keep our species existing and thriving. No, stop it, stop it, thinking too far ahead. Once we finally sat down to eat breakfast. Ben quickly downed his food. Went to his room grabbed some mismatching clothes, and brought then to me, I helped him pull them on and the three of us flew off into the sky. Ben flew toward me and landed on my back," I wanna see carnival." Carnival, how did he know what a carnival was?
"I don't think there is a carnival honey." I said back to him.
"I see it." He said happily pointing into the distance. I didn't see anything but we just kept flying straight until surely enough we found a carnival.
We landed on the shore, next to the pier, where a huge carnival was going on."Let's go play then." Dylan smiled taking Ben's hand and leading him to the kiddie rides. We played for hours, and ate tons of food.
"Dylan it's getting dark, we should go." I said nervously.
"Okay, c'mon Benny." Dylan scooped up our tired child, and we walked to the shore. I carried all of Ben's prizes, and we quickly flew off back home.
"Fly, fly." Ben squirmed out of Dylan's arms so he could fly on his own, he zoomed past me. I watched him, proud of his independence. Until out of the corner of my eye I saw giant nets flying at us.
"Ben!" I zoomed toward him too late, one net caught my wing, and tangled me up, sending me flying toward the ground. Just as I almost hit the ground, I saw Ben get wrapped up in a net, and sent toward the ground.
"Mommy, mommy!" I heard his frightened screams." Daddy help!"
"Ben!" I started ripping the net from my wings, and ran as fast as I could through the trees, to where I guessed Ben landed.
"Mommy," I heard in the distance, I looked around trying to figure out where it was coming from," mommy!"
"Ben!" I ran quickly, I could hear car motors in the distance, I knew where he was now. I found a dirt trail, that was definitely big enough for a vehicle. I opened my wings, and soared down the trail until I finally saw an armored vehicle.
"Mommy!" As I was approaching the vehicle Dylan slammed against the side of it, opening the door, and grabbing an armored man, throwing him out of the way. Dylan was immediately punched in the face and kicked in the stomach making him fall to the ground. "Daddy!" Ben cried.
