"Hey," I smile at Angel, opening the door wide enough for him to come in.
"Hey," He sounds nervous. Hell, I am too. He places both of his hands in the pockets of his jeans, that is tucked underneath his shirt. The moment I close the door by the time he walks slowly by me, I stand beside him as we face my dad and Betty.
"Dad, this is Angel. Angel, this is my dad." Oh, boy. This night is gonna go by slow. Angel reaches out his hand to my dad and I am surprised that he shakes his back.
"Nice to meet you, Angel." He says after they stopped shaking hands.
"You too, Mr. Taylor." He clears his throat. I look over at Betty and she gives me a warm smile.
"Please, have a seat. I want to get to know you before you leave with my daughter." He extends his arm to the table in the middle between the kitchen and the living room. Angel walks over, my dad followed behind him. When they are seated, I walk over to Betty.
"I hope this goes by well." I whisper to her, making sure that only she hears me, and not my father and boyfriend.
"It will, don't worry." She assures me before rubbing my back with her hand. I take a deep breath and relax my shoulders, not keeping my eyes off the two men. Betty and I remain standing by the kitchen counter and I could only hear a few words from my dad and Angel. They end up talking about sports, which one was their favorite team, movies, what college Angel wants to go to, and if Angel already knows how to drive or if he has a job.
"Yes, I have a license already and I had two jobs during my freshmen year and one in my sophomore year. I'm on my fourth one, already." Angel says to my dad and he nods, rubbing his temples.
"What's your job now?" My father asks him.
"Car mechanic." Angel says and I spit my water back into my cup. What the hell? I am so surprised and completely off guard on what job he works for. I can't help but allow my feelings grow more and more for Angel.
"Wow. I'm impressed, son." My dad pats him on the shoulder after taking a sip from his soda — which Betty gave him and Angel half an hour ago. Angel smiles and glances up at me. His smile is still plastered on his face until his eyes focus back on my dad and go into another deep conversation that led to an hour. I glanced down on my phone and it is already ten minutes after seven. It's been over two hours since they've been talking and I soon noticed, that I still haven't moved from my spot in the kitchen. Betty has moved to the couch, taking a nap for half an hour. I didn't even realize.
"Well it was good to know you, Angel." My father clears his throat before standing up from his chair.
"You too, Mr. Taylor," He gives him a small nod.
"Please, call me John. I just want what's best for my daughter and after getting to know you, I think you're a good influence on her." My dad says and I think Angel lost his breath just like I am right now, based on his choice of words.
"I don't know what to say," his mouth is wide open. I'm pretty sure mine is too.
"Say no more, go on and take Sky to that fancy restaurant." He smiles at him and shakes his hand. Angel doesn't say anything, he just gives him a nervous smile and a nod before walking up to me.
"You ready?" He asks me and I nod frantically. "I'll bring her back at nine." Angel assures my dad before we walk out through the doorway.
"Please, son, take your time but not too much." My father winks at him and I groan in embarrassment, practically pulling Angel behind me as we walk out the house and down the steps. By the time the door shuts and we make it to his car, I turn around and kiss him hard.
