We have all heard the headcannon that if Nepeta had been the one to die first, Equius could have easily taken down Gamzee.
I extend this with the fact that Nepeta could have used the skills she learned while hunting to take down Gamzee with no problem, but was too heartbroken from seeing Equius dead to put up as much of a fight as she could have.
