Chapter 18

So he was going to propose to Mandy.

I knew it. After only knowing him for a short while, why would he ever love me like I love him?

My mom invited Scott to spend the night with us since Chris and Lisa were in Connecticut.

Scott was sitting next to me at the table, staring at the ceramic coffee mug I had given him.

"I hope this surgery goes quick. I can't wait to see if Lisa and Chris are going to be okay." I said.

"You and me both." Scott sighed.

I woke up to a loud ringing noise and noticed it was Scott's phone. The caller ID said "Best Bro", and I rolled my eyes knowing it was Chris calling.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hi... Is Scott there?"

"Umm he's sleeping right now, want me to wake him?"

"No, no that's okay. Who am I talking to?"

My heart sank. He didn't even recognize my voice.

"Um Bella...."

There was a short pause before Chris said, "Bella... How are you?"

I laughed lightly. "I am perfectly fine. The real question is how are you?"

"I'm okay. I feel a little drowsy, which the doctor said is normal. Luckily he let me make a call because I wanted to update Scott. My mom is going to be okay. The surgery went well and she and I are both in recovery. The doctor said it will be a few months before we fully recover."

I breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm so glad you guys are okay. Scott will be glad to hear." I paused before saying quietly, "I'm especially glad you're okay."

There was another short pause before he whispered, "I've miss you so much..." and then I heard a deep voice say, "Okay Christopher, phone time is up.", which I assumed was the doctor.

"I got to go Bella. Tell Scott we are all okay. Take care of him for me." Chris said before hanging up.

Chris is okay. He is alive. He misses me! But he still was about to propose to Mandy...
