*3 years later*

My eyelids felt heavy as I tried to open them.

Nothing.

I then tried to rub my face with my hand, but my arm wouldn't budge.

What happened?

I heard talking in the distance that slowly drew nearer, and I concentrated my energy into hearing what was being spoken.

"Any updates?" I heard a familiar voice say. The voice belonged to a female, and the pain and anxiety in her voice was evident.

"Not yet, we will keep you updated."

"Thank you doctor."

I then heard a door shut, and then there was a loud screeching noise, which I assumed was a chair being dragged over next to me.

"Oops, sorry." The voice whispered, as the loud noise from the chair began to drift into quietness.

"Hey Chris, how's it going?" The same voice cracked, and I heard the crinkling of sheets as a hand slithered into mine.

I tried to breathe out some words, but nothing came out. I was paralyzed, stuck feeling the emotions that the person beside me was feeding off at me. I had no way to express or say what I felt. It was truly terrifying.

"Yesterday your mom shared some news with me." The voice sniffled.

"She said that the nurses saw your finger move. I rushed over here hoping-" The voice cut off, and a small sigh escaped her mouth.

"Anyways, I'm here now. Your family, they're hanging in there. Just knowing that you're alive, that's what keeps them going."

Then all the memories came flooding back to me.

I'm in the hospital. There was a accident.

There were flashed of scenes that I replayed in my mind from the night of the crash, from when I faded in and out of consciousness on that horrible night.

I saw bright red and blue lights flashing.

The ambulance.

I saw a large tube being lowered over my mouth.

And the rest returned to me as noise. There was shouting, I could hear wheels turning, and as they turned I moved with them.

Then my mind went black. That was all I remember from that night.

My mind raced forward to where I was now, a soft voice speaking quietly next to me, and the stroking of a thumb on my hand.

The hand made its way up to my face, where it rubbed soothing circles on my cheek.

I wanted to reach up and take the hand in mine, but all my actions were restricted by motionless body.
