The police burst through the door armed with guns. I told them that it was a false alarm, and they looked at me like I was a lunatic.

I knew exactly what they were thinking. So your neighbors called for an emergency that didn't exist?!

They left almost as fast as they came. I collapsed onto the couch, exhausted. I closed my eyes, only for them to shoot back open.

Colby was still next door. I got up off the couch and walked next door. When I got there, I told them everything was fine and that Colby can come home.

They handed me Colby, who was sucking his thumb, sound asleep. He hasn't sucked his thumb since he was two. He must have been terrified.

When we got home, I tucked him into bed. When I laid him down on the bed, he woke up.

"Where is he?" He said with fear in his voice. "Sh, it's okay." I said brushing the hair out of he eyes. "He's not going to hurt you. He's going to help us." He seemed to relax as soon as I said "help". I sat on the bed until he fell asleep. I quietly left the room.

It was hard to rely on a killer to protect your little brother, but for some reason, I knew I could trust him.

Jeff's POV

I was running for my life down the street. If I didn't move fast, the cops would be on my tail.

I ran until I came to the forest. I looked up at the tall intimidating trees. But I didn't stay there long, I could hear sirens getting closer and closer by the second. I sprinted into the woods. Dodging rocks and trees as I ran. I finally arrived at an old abandoned house and went inside. This is where I had been staying since I was thirteen. It was a bit scary for me since I was just a kid, but since I've been staying here for 4 years, I've learned to get used to the stairs creaking and the rats crawling out from beneath floorboards.

I couldn't stop thinking about that girl. She actually wouldn't except that she was going to die. She fought back, and practically beat my sorry butt. But I can't kill her, I don't know why, but I can't. I promised her I would protect her brother, and I will never break that promise. He is a spitting image of Liu. The worst thing I could do was kill my brother again. At least that's what it felt like.

Kate's POV

"Kate! Get out of bed!" I heard my mom yell as she knocked on the door. Ugh, it was Monday. I absolutely despise Mondays.

Whoever likes them, is most likely insane. I dragged myself out of bed and slowly pushed open the door. I still hadn't told my mom about the "incident" yet, and I hope she never finds out. As I got ready, I noticed that the house was eerily quiet. My mom wasn't even talking to Colby. Or me, except for earlier when she told me to get out of bed.

When I was done getting ready, I grabbed my stuff and headed out the door. "Bye," I said with a small wave. My mom just threw me a wave over her shoulder and continued to make Colby breakfast.

When I got to school, I saw Emily standing by the front doors with her little minions. She still had the bandage on her nose, and I couldn't help but laugh on the inside when I saw it. I brushed past her and went to my locker. Someone was standing by my locker,

And I could tell it was Josh. I went over to my locker and said hi, and he did the classic hand-on-the-locker move. Good grief.

He thought we were dating, but seriously, I only looked at him as a friend. "Are you free tonight? I want to take you to the movies."

I can't say no, that would be plain rude. Besides, he's the most popular guy in school, that would make EVERYONE turn against me.

"Yeah, sure." I said grabbing my books for my first class. "Great, I'll pick you up at seven." He said with a big smile spread across his face. "Wait, what movie are we going to see?" I asked him. "Well, I was thinking we could watch..... Nightmare on Elm Street."

It better be the 2010 remake, because the 1984 version had horrible acting and it wasn't even scary. Even if it did have Johnny Depp in it. "The cheesy version, or the remake?" I asked him.

"Remake of course." He said, still smiling.

"Ok, I was afraid you would say the old one." I said with a sigh of relief. We exchanged goodbyes and went to class.

----

It was 6:50. I rushed to get ready for the movie. If I was late, it would be a total embarrassment. When I was done getting ready, I told Colby to tell mom I would be home at 9:00 because she was taking a nap.

I saw Josh's car parked by the curb and I got in. We drove there in silence, except for when he asked how it was going.

"Well, my mom isn't really talking to me. So I guess it's not all that great." I said with my head resting on the window. He didn't say another word the whole rest of the way.

----

We finally started talking when we were waiting for the movie to start. I didn't choose anything fancy to wear tonight. I didn't want him to think I was trying to impress him, I just put on some skinny jeans and a hoodie. Nothing special. But I hope he doesn't pull any moves tonight anyway.

The movie finally started, and we stopped talking.

----

When the movie was over, he dropped me off at my house. I waved goodbye and disappeared into the house.

When I got inside, I saw mom standing in the middle of the room with her arms folded. "Kate, your room. Now."

We went in my room and she slammed the door shut and locked it. "Anything you want to tell me?" She said. Arms still folded.

"What are you talking about?" I asked nervously. "I received a very interesting phone call the other night. Something about.... An intruder in the house!" Shoot, the police did notify her. "I heard that when the police got there, they were gone.Do you know where they went?" She asked suspiciously. What will she think of me? Letting a killer go?! That's a ticket to the nut house!

"I uh, um....let him go." I said the last part quietly, but she still heard me. "YOU WHAT?! YOU LET THEM GO?!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. "YOU ARE PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES ON THE LINE!" She calmed down for a minute, then said: "You, are grounded." Then she left. Not even letting me protest.
