Saving a killer

My mom was sitting on the couch watching the news. She seemed a little better than before. She had finally left the closure of her dark, gloomy room. I whipped my head around to the TV when the reporter started talking about a murder that happened an hour ago. "Little Jenna Parkins was brutally murdered recently by a knife in the back. Her brother, Tyler Parkins shares his part of the story."

The camera cut to a boy who looked about my age. All color was drained from his face. "My mom Jenna went into town, and I decided to stay home. While I was watching TV, I heard a noise upstairs. I went and tried to see what it was. When I opened the door to my moms room, I saw a teenage boy looking around the room. He had jet flack hair, and when he turned around, I wanted to scream.

He had a smile, that would stay there forever. I've chosen to forgive this person, because he made me understand." It cut back to the reporter, who had a grim look on his face. "Forgave him? I know I would want that cold hearted person's blood if he killed my sister!" I shut off the TV, and my mom looked at me.

"He killed a little girl, Kate." She said sternly. "Mom, I know! You just don't understand! If you were him, you would want people to feel your pain too!" She shot off of the couch. "Kate! Listen to me!" She yelled. "No! You listen, to me!" I yelled back at her. She must be shocked at the way I was talking to her, because her eyes widened. "It's not his fault that he's like this! Those stupid kids made him this way! They changed him forever!"

She grabbed me by the arm. "I don't want you being with someone that could turn on you at any second." She hissed in my ear. She stormed out of the room, and slammed her bedroom door. I sat down on the couch, and turned the TV back on. I hope something interesting was on so I could get my mind off of what just happened.

The news was still on. "They have found him! I repeat, they have found him!" They show a video of several police chasing after someone running down an alley. Three of them ran after the person. They came back out of the shadows with the person they were chasing after. As soon as they stepped into the light of the street lamp, I saw who they had been chasing after. It was Jeff.

My eyes widened, and I shot off of the couch. They cut back to the reporter, who said, "they have stated that he will be executed immediately, and in public. At 8:30 exactly. I'm guessing we will see some of you there. Goodnight."

I got in my mom's car and started the engine. I have only driven a car a few times, because a few weeks after I got my license, I crashed the car, and my mom hasn't let me driven since. But no matter what she said then, will effect my choices now. "I'm coming Jeff." I whispered as I pulled out of the driveway. I turned on the radio to the news station. "The execution will take place outside of town hall. This murderous person will pay for his crimes, and you bet I will be there to watch it."

I turned off the radio as soon as he said that. How could they ado this to Jeff? If only they could just understand! I need to get there, and fast. They won't wait for the whole town to get there, they will get rid of him as fast they want too.

---

I pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car. I could hear several yells and chants, "just get on with it! I want to see that awful killer suffer!" It made me want to kill them all. I ran into the dense crowd, and shoved my way past people. I finally saw the police on the stone platform in front of the crowd. I saw police leading Jeff to the stage, his face was expressionless.

"Jeff!" I screamed, and I saw his head turn to my direction. He looked at me, then turned his head back to the ground. I saw an officer step up to a microphone, and he said, "who wants him to die from his own blade?" The crowd cheered back in agreement. No...NO! I shoved people, out of my way, and ran to the front of the stage.

"STOP!" I screamed at the police. "You can't do this!" One of them grabbed my arm and whipped me around to face him. "Watch us." He shoved me to the ground. I heard someone yelling front the crowd. He made his way to the stage, and went to the microphone. "She's right! You can't do this!" I recognized him immediately. It was the boy who's sister died. "It's not his fault he's like this! He didn't ask to be this way!" He yelled into the crowd.

Jeff shook his head, as if knowing that we couldn't stop his death. Police were pinning his hands behind his back, and making sure he didn't pull any tricks. I ran over to them, and yelled at them. "Let him go!" They didn't pay any attention, they just kept looking straight forward. "Let him go, or I'll kill you!" They turned their heads to me, shocked.

"You heard me." I said through gritted teeth. "Let him go." They let go of him, and stepped back. I hugged Jeff, and I let tears run down my face. "Kate! Look out!" Jeff yelled. I turned around, and the police pinned my hands behind my back. "Let go of me!" I said. Trying to free myself.

I also saw them get the boy named Tyler. I spotted my mom and Colby's faces in the crowd. How'd they get here? I saw Colby jump out of moms arms and run to the stage. "Colby! Wait!" My mom screamed. He got to the front of the crowd, and said, "stop! Don't hurts him!" The crowd stopped cheering and eyed Colby suspiciously.

"He said he would protect me! He said he would never let me get hurt!" (Didn't do so well the first time did he? XD). "Let go of my sister!" He yelled at the cops. They let me go, and I grabbed Colby's hand. "He's right. Jeff did swear to protect my brother. And I knew he wouldn't let me down. You can't kill him. Technically, he didn't do anything wrong! They did! Those twisted people that changed his life forever!"

The crowd was silent. You could hear a pin drop. "Please, just don't kill him!" I yelled into the crowd. "After all he's done?! We can't let him live!" I heard a man in the audience yell at me. The whole crowd agreed in unison, except my mom, she just stood there. The police tried to hold me back, but I punched one in the jaw, and he went down hard.

"Get away from me! Or you'll be sorry!" They all kept advancing on me. I ran over to Jeff and grabbed his knife. "I said, get away from me, or you'll be sorry!" They stepped back and raised their guns. "Put down the knife, and no one gets hurt." I heard an officer say. I didn't listen, I just clutched the knife tighter.

I glanced at Tyler, and he got the message. I needed him to cause a distraction. "Hey! I have a gun in my pocket, and I'm not afraid to use it!" He yelled. All of the cops started advancing on him. I went over to the officers holding Jeff back, and knocked them out. "Come on, we need to get out of here!" He obeyed, and we ran off into the darkness.

---

We stopped at the edge of the woods, and Jeff looked me in the eye. "Kate, are you nuts?" You could have gotten yourself killed!" "I'm sorry! I was just trying to save you! Jeff, you mean the world to me! I couldn't just watch you die!" Tears started falling down my face. He pulled me into a hug, and whispered, "you're everything to me, and I would do anything for you." I don't know how long we were there, but all I know is that I've found one of the only people that cares about me.
