When I was eating my breakfast cereal my mom sat down across from me. I recognized the look on her face. She was going to tell me something that she'd already told all of my siblings and they were fine with it but she knew I wouldn't be. I sighed,

'Tell me' I said while dropping my spoon in my bowl, already a bit moody. Mom tried to force excitement, 'Sooo your dad, Laurelle, Shaun and I have decided to go on a camping trip together, with both families!' She smiled as if she was telling me we were going to Disneyland. What? My face grew gloomy and my mouth formed a line, oh no, I was not happy with this.

'When?' I asked monotone, I knew putting up a fight wouldn't make it better.

'Today, after school' she beamed. My eyes widened, she couldn't be serious. This couldn't be real. Stay calm Connor, stay calm.

' C-camping? In December?' I snorted disapprovingly, and then she dropped the biggest bomb, you know since she was busy anyway,

'Yup, and you and Troye will be sharing a tent' she announced, like it was nothing. 1..2..3.. no I couldn't do it, I couldn't count to stay calm.

'WHAT? No.. mom you can't do this to me!' I said with big eyes, pleading for justice. This was ridiculous, why couldn't she just put me in a tent with Brandon? Going camping was one, but in a tent with Troye Mellet, no, no way.

'Oh don't be so dramatic Connor, you'll like Troye, he's a good kid' she said while rolling her eyes. 'And you would know that if you ever talked to him.' she said pointedly, kind of shaming me for my lack of interaction with the Mellets. Sage and Nicola were like best friends, Brandon and Tyde got along pretty well too. Steele and Dustin were off to college already, but they were on a friendly level as well.

For some reason me and Troye just avoided each other. We were in such different groups of friends and just, not that fond of the other. There was no beef between us or whatsoever, we just didn't get along.

'That's something else than sharing a shower mom, besides he's never at school anyway' I stated, picking up my spoon again to continue eating my cereal. Mom frowned,

'What do you mean?' she asked skeptically, as if this was something she hadn't heard before. Hm, maybe Laurelle wasn't that honest with her? Or his parents didn't know of his absence either.

'He misses an average of two days a week' I explained. Mom's face went back to normal,

'oh yeah, he has migraine' she said, waving it away. I snorted,

'I wouldn't be so sure' I said while putting my spoon in my mouth. Mom looked heavenwards.

'Oh come on, what do you think then? That he's pregnant?' she said cynically. I shrugged,

'maybe' I said with a grin. I'd better not tell her about the rumors. Mom rolled her eyes,

'Please Connor grow up' she said. I ignored her, pretending she wasn't there and that I didn't hear her. I got up and went to school.

I had English first period, last week we handed in a creative writing assignment and today we were getting it back. Troye was in this class as well. Mr Lester always read the best story he had received to us, and it was always kind of an unvoiced battle between me and Troye as we were the top of the class.

Mr Lester scraped his throat as his eyes met Troye's and then mine, he knew we were sitting on the edge of our seat. This year so far I had won 5 times and Troye's won 3 times, but he's never at school so it's not really a fair competition I guess.
