Sentenced To Eternity

Chapter 7

Alise's Point of View

I couldn't help thinking back to that cheesy joke my Dad used to tell us as kids.

How a man running for president was hit by a truck two days before election.  When he died the man had a trial in Heaven.  He was told by the Court that he was sort of in the middle of going into Heaven and going to Hell (as all Politicians were).  The man was ordered to spend one day in Heaven and one in Hell and choose which place he would rather stay at in his after-life.

Well, on the first day he went to Heaven.  It was nice and all; Angels playing harps, sitting on clouds, saying prayers, and laughing (NOT at all my experience).  It was alright, but it got a little boring.

Then he packed his bags and headed to Hell for a day.  He entered a land of fire and red skies.  It never snowed or rained, it was always warm.  He got a nice little home and met Satan.  Shockingly, he was actually an okay guy!  Sure he was. . . ugly and pretty cruel. . . but he was nice.  They played golf with some Demons and went to the bar and got bloody drunk.  When he got home there were some hot Demon chicks waiting for him.  He liked it there.  There was alot more to do and it was much more interesting than Heaven.

When he arrived in Heaven, the Court asked him where he would like to live.  "Hmm, they were both fine- you know, for after-life- but I think I would like Hell more!"  The Court all looked around confused, but they obeyed the man's wishes and sent him to Hell.

When he arrived in Hell it was TERRIBLE!

Fire, dead bodies, evil Demons who constantly tried to eat you, and an extremely hot climate.

He found Satan and walked up to him.  "What happened?  It was no nice here yesterday!" the man said with a frown.

"Yes," Satan agreed.  "That was yesterday, but today on Earth you would have been elected for President, and it would have been like living in Hell for you!" he smiled a devilish grin.

 Yeah, cheesy I know.

Anyway, we sat around in the Court, me with my mouth wide open, willing to catch flies.  "Now, may I resume the trial of Ali-"

"No, one second!" I rudely interupted him.  "What do you mean you've been an Etherial for sixty years but you were there at my death?"

"I told you!" the judge blazed, shaking the court room.  "An Etherial has to watch their loved ones die! Her little sister was one of the people who was shot."

"So an Etherial has to visit Earth to see their loved ones die?" I asked.

"No," Sophie sighed.  "I died also that day."

I was so confused.

So she visited Earth to see her sister die, but she died that day also?

"My Earth body is in a coma, just like yours.  It isn't dead yet.  But I was sent here to be your Etherial.  My sister and the others are really dead except for me.  I was the only one who could be and Etherial.  I have been here for sixty years, even though you haven't and we died on the same day.  I had to watch all of my loved ones die.  Since I did it at the speed of light I only spent .7 Earth seconds doing that, but it equaled to sixty years.  Understand?"

No, not really.

But I nodded anyway.

"Now," the Judge said with a glare at me.  "It is time for the trial.  You know, the thing we came here for?  Now, Sophie, please describe what occurrred at the Mall on Black Friday to the best of your abilitie, what do you believe you saw of Alise that day, if you saw her at all?"

Sophie told them some odd things.  She said that I was wearing a large orange coat (orange?  Eww!) and drinking water from a four foot tall water-bottle.

"A four foot ta-"

Just then, I felt my mouth close.  No matter how hard I tried it wouldn't open and no sound could come out.

"Silence!" the Judge screamed, his baby-fat wiggling in anger.

What choice did I have?  They had put a curse on me.

I just sat there and listened to her tell the horrible description of what she saw that day.  Finally he asked her some other questions, followed by some strange, strange answers.  Was she trying to get us both killed?

Well, we were already dead. . . wait, re-phrase that!  Was she trying to get us both sent to Hell?  I just sat there and listen to the gasps, cries, screams, and bursts of laughter from the crowd.

Finally as she was talking about an old lady in the Mall dancing with her new kitten, I interupted.  "Wait, wait, wait!  So if Etherials can go from any land to any land, why can't you just take us to the past and see what really happened?" I asked emphasizing really.

The entire Court almost laughed at me.  "Silly girl!" the Judge said between giggles.  "There are three lands, Heaven, Hell, and Earth, or Mid-Life.  In Heaven there are three classes; Angels, Messengers, and Etherials.  In Hell there are two classes Demons and Dark Messengers.  Angels and Demons have anti-bodies.  For Angels they are halos, Demons they are horns.  These anti-bodies are made of all of their bad Earth memories. The memories make them incapable of  traveling to other lands or to see other lands.  Messengers are people who did not have enough bad memories on Earth to make a halo, thus allowing them to travel to other lands and bring messages.  Dark Messengers are people who committed suicide or died young.  You know what Etherials are, too.  Etherials can only travel to other lands for 168 hours (one week) before they turn to dust and are sent to Hell as Demons.  This also happens with Visitors, which you are, if you are bad of course.  Etherials also need to live in Heaven.  But since they are as powerful as He, they can attack other lands, communicate with them easier than Messengers, and start wars.  They can also not be tracked by anyone so they can do anything.  They can be dangerous, but we trust and believe Sophie.  Understand?"

I nodded.  I got it.  It was interesting, actually.

I never knew one question could decide my fate of going to Heaven of Hell.

"Now, Miss Sophie, do you believe Alise killed you at the Mall on Friday?" the Judge asked, getting down to it.

Sophie looked at me, then at the Judge, then hard at me.  "Yes," she sighed.  "Alise killed all of us at the Mall that day."

As the court gasped I screamed in pure anger and ran at Sophie, prepared to beat her to a pulp.  "I didn't kill you, you little bit-" Just as I hit her face with my fist, my arm turned to dust. . .
