Tonight's the night

My hands are sweaty, nerves are killing me and I keep shuffling around on the same spot. But you would too if you haven't talked to that special someone in 8 months and 11 days.

That's a long time, 8 months and 11 days. That's almost a pregnancy, which I'm happy that it isn't.

I close my white lab coat before entering the cryo room. Not that it's cold or anything, but the fact that I'm an intern at King T'Challa's science team makes me proud to wear it.

"Vitals are steady." Luca, a renowned scientist specialised in cryonism, states.

We're a team of 5. Well, 4. I'm technically not one of them. We have Luca, Faye, a technology expert, Khule, highly praised doctor and neurosurgeon, and Azusa, weapons expert.

I walk to the table where the red book is exposed to the air. It's open on the page with the 10 Russian words neatly written. It took me nearly 4 months to translate it on my own and another month and a half to convince the others I found the key.

"Are you ready, Jones?" Khule asks and I nod.

I start the recording system in the room and stand across the cryo tank.

"Testing day 1. During our recent research and findings, we may have found a solution to the brain manipulation of Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes." Faye says.

"I will now send a shock through his body so it gets the need to start up. You can compare the shock to a defibrillator on a heart attack." Khule continues and presses a button.

I see Bucky's muscles tense up before relaxing again. My eyes stay fixed on him while he squints before opening his.

"He's awake, guys." I comment and smile.

Luca presses another button to let the tank open on its own. Smoke-like air comes out while the door swings completely open. It's almost like slow motion, how he steps out. My heart quickens as his silhouette becomes more and more visible by the second.

"Good evening, Sergeant Barnes." I say loudly, "Do you remember the last thing you did before going under?"

A small hesitation is there before he leaps towards me. Azusa readies herself to come between us, but I gesture she doesn't have to. Bucky's arm sneaks around my waist while pulling me completely close to him.

His skin is cold, but that might be a misjudgment as my skin is feeling hot.

"This was the last thing I remember." He whispers in my ear, "I found you."

I smile and wrap my arms around his body. I let loose when I remember there are other people in the room. Blood travels to my cheeks as he lets me go too.

"Let's continue." I stutter, covering my cheeks as I stare at him, "We may have found a counter for the brain manipulation HYDRA put you through."

"Let's be honest." Khule smiles next to me, "This one found it all on her own. Her honors to proceed."

I gesture Bucky to follow me to another part of the room where the book lies. There's also a chair that's strong enough to hold Bucky while experimenting.

"You remember what this is, right?" I ask, pointing to the book.

"The thing I dread most." He grins, but I feel he's scared and hesitant.

"I translated the whole thing, since it's completely in Russian, and found a possible solution on the last page, obviously. You want to try it?"

"The sooner, the better." He comments before we go through the complete procedure.

"So, this is the wing T'Challa gave team Cap after they broke out of the Raft, an underwater prison." I explain as I show Bucky the building, "He gave me another room in the science quarter, but this feels more like home."

The moon shines through the window-filled wall as a dim light inside makes the furniture glow.

"The rooms are over there." I point to the hallway, "The closest one to the kitchen is mine, but other than that, you can take whichever one you like."

"It looks like you found your place out here." He smiles at me, "You look great, by the way. Time hasn't done much to you."

"Haha, very funny." I sarcastically smirk, "Steve is coming tomorrow, to see the tests."

Silence overtakes us as he wanders off to the windows. I shrug and go to the bathroom. I'm in desperate need of a shower. And my bed.

I quickly take a shower, rinsing today's sweat off my skin, before I get out the shower again. I towel-dry my hair before I leave the bathroom only in my underpants.

"Oh, shit." I hear from my bed and I jump.

I cover my boobs with my hands and turn around. Bucky is lying on the right side of the bed with his eyes covered.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I ask surprised.

"First night out the ice and you suspect me to spend it on my own?" He grins between his hands, "Can you cover up maybe?"

I huff and take a shirt out my closet.

"You know, I've been up since 2 am, so the only thing I want to do right now is sleep." I state as I pull it over my head, "You can look now."

He stares at me while I turn to him. He flashes that perfect smile and ushers me to sit next him. I shake my head while laughing and plump down on my belly, face first.

"Oh, I have something for you." I realize and sit up.

I reach over him to my nightstand and open the small drawer. I take the small yellow diary before closing it again and pushing myself to my place.

"You know, you are too comfortable with people sometimes." Bucky grins.

"If I can be this comfortable with a super assassin, then I can be comfortable with everyone." I smirk back as I hand him the diary, "I've been writing down important things that happened over the past 8 months, so you can catch up. I thought you might find it useful."

He smiles ear-wide and takes the diary from me. I lay my head down on my pillow as I keep my eyes on him.

"Can you read a little bit to me? Your voice always finds a way to make me fall asleep. No offense though."

He bellows sweet laughter while I close my eyes to sleep. I hear him open the book and turn a few pages. He scrapes his throat and starts narrating, just before I start dozing off.

"Steve called this morning, saying he's freed the others with Natasha. They're all a little shaken up as they're still flying to Wakanda.
My classmates looked a little weird when I walked out of Prototype Engineering this morning to take the call from Captain America. Only Peter understood what I was talking about. Silly Peter."
