I pass another thousand-year old tree as I try to get away from him. My feet are hurting, that's for sure, but I can't let him win. Not in a million years.
My breath stocks in my throat, giving me a sign to stop running. I stop at the large rock, putting my arms in the air.
"I won." I gasp as he finally gets around.
"How did you get so fast?" Bucky pants, "I could barely tag along with you."
"Well, you've seen how T'Challa has been training me. It's painful, on the verge of torture, but so rewarding." I smile as I put my arms around his neck.
"You did cheat though." He smiles back while placing his hands on my waist.
"Whaaat?" My voice goes an octave higher, "I did no such thing."
"Oh, really?" His eyebrows go up, "Then how do you explain you literally flying?"
"First, that wasn't flying, that was floating on air. And secondly," I lean to his ear, "if you're not going to kiss me, I'm out."
I take a step back, almost free out Bucky's grip, but he just tightens it. I questionably look at him, while he just wickedly smiles.
"You're not going anywhere without a kiss, stupid." He grins and leans in to peck my lips.
I totally smile into it. This is what makes me happy. The feeling of Bucky and I against the world. Even though we're not alone.
"How do you even know the forest that well?" He asks and I laugh.
"Seriously, dude?"
"What? It's a valid question."
"I've been here for more than five months. I've been running with Azusa, who is a local. Which means she taught me all the paths and trees in a 10-mile radius."
I take his hand into mine and pull him towards the most beautiful place I know in that 10-mile radius. He frowns at me and stops walking, but I just smile.
"C'mon. I want to show you something." I pull, but he doesn't budge.
"Don't you trust me?" I ask sadly as I let go of his hand.
He steps closer and cups my cheeks. His metal hand suddenly feels foreign against my skin.
"Of course I trust you." He whispers, "I trust you with my life. But I want to stay here a little longer. It's secluded over here."
I grin as my heart calms down a little bit, "It's even more secluded where I'll take you."
He smiles and gives me the permission to show the way. I roll my eyes as I start running up the rocks. I glance back to see him following my moves. I focus on the way up. The rocks are somewhat slippery from yesterday's rain, but we manage.
I lead him to a hidden cave. I push the green away from the entrance and let him go before me. He cautiously walks in front of me, only to stop when he sees the waterfall. It's this indoor waterfall with a small pool and just some rays of sunshine gets through the afforestation around it.
"Wow..." He gushes as I wrap my arms around him from the back.
I hug him tightly as I feel his arms covering mine. He loosens my arms a little bit so he can turn in my embrace to face me. He cups my cheeks as he brings his face closer. Our lips touch tenderly while my hands travel up to his shoulder blades. My fingers graze the connection tissue where his metal arm is attached before going to the hem of his shirt to pull it off. He stops my hands from doing so and he stares at me.
"What?" I smile innocently, "I just want to go for a swim."
I take the hem of my own top and pull it over my head to reveal my sports bra. I undo myself of my shoes and I go to the edge of the water. My toes are just grazing the cool water before diving into it.
The cool water now surrounds me as I go up to gasp for some air. I surface and rub my face, only to glance over to Bucky who's still standing on the edge.
"Are you coming in or what?" I smile.
"Won't my arm get a shortcut?" He asks worried.
"Not really. I mean, no. Your arm is made of the best metal in the world and they made sure you can't be defeated by a glass of water."
He grins before pulling off his shirt, revealing his toned abs. He dives in as well, resurfacing just in front of me. His arms sneak around my waist as he pulls me closer. I push a strand of hair away from his beautiful face before I wrap my arms around his neck.
"This place is timeless." I whisper, "It's been here for at least a thousand years, and it'll stay here for even a longer time. Just like you, and just like me."
He smiles before he starts frowning. He's clearly processing my words, and I want him to understand though.
"Seeing, feeling and manipulating other people's emotions and the vibes are not the only thing that I have." I start explaining, "There's this mutation that runs through our family. For the first 18 years of our lives, we grow up normally. Then everything slows down. The aging of our cells takes longer to reach a year of deteriorating, our brains start functioning better. We basically become immortal agewise. For example, my dad was 59 when he died, yet his whole body was only 30."
"So, there's a chance that you'll outlive me?" Is the only thing he says while I can feel the sadness he's feeling.
"There's always a possibility, although I'm aging a little faster than my father was."
He looks away, clearly trying to stop tears from falling down. I put my hand on his cheek and force him to look at me. I smile lightly to him, only to make him smile sadly at me. I get why he's so worried about all of this. He's outlived his whole generation and had to start all over again.
"Don't you worry though." I tell him, "We'll have a long and happy life before anything drastic happens to us."
I press my lips onto his and forget about the world around us. Only Bucky and I matter, nothing and no else does.
