The request

I giggle as Steve and Bucky fall back from laughter. Never had I thought that hanging around with these two would be so funny. And who would've thought these two were equally pains in the asses.

"Remember when we snuck out of class just to see the girls having PE?" Steve grins, "You were so in over your head for that brunette junior."

Bucky smiles down, "They sure were beautiful. Oh, but don't forget that lovely blonde a few years later that I had to ask out on a double date just so you could spend 10 minutes with her."

"Oh! Was that the date with my grandmother? To the future?" I chip in, grinning at the end.

"We went on a date with her grandmother?" Steve questions Bucky who just laughs and scratches the back of his neck.

"Apparently we did." Bucky smirks at me.

"What a coincidence..." Steve wanders as a royal servant walks in the living room.

"The King has requested your presence, Ms. Jones." He formally speaks to which I nod.

I stand up, leaving the Smithsonian exhibits be, and follow the servant through the hallways of the palace. I cling onto my cardigan, closing it tightly around my body. The servant takes a left turn, which tingles my senses, because we aren't walking to the thrown hall anymore.

My doubts are soon swept off the table as we enter a room with T'Challa sitting at the head of the table, surrounded by the others of the science team.

"You requested my presence?" I bow my head and sit down next to Faye.

"Yes." T'Challa addresses me, "I would like to talk about the developments in Sergeant Barnes' condition."

"His health is like he's never went under." Khule starts, "It is quite remarkable. He could be the first documented case of successful cryo."

"Yes, but he has an altered biosphere." Luca continues, "There is no way a normal person would survive the conditions of being a life-sized popsicle. But other than that, he's lucky that he has no permanent damage no matter how his biosphere is."

"Azusa and I are finished developing a new arm for Sergeant Barnes. It might not be as good and strong as his precious one, but the nerve system that goes along with it is far better than the previous one." Faye adds as Azusa nods in agreement, "We could start experimenting with it as soon as you want it, your Highness."

"Ms. Jones? Do you have something to add?" T'Challa turns to me.

"Alright, look. As much as I want Bucky to have his arm back, we still don't know if the reverse technique for that mental game is completely successful. We need to do a few more tests without the arm before we can start with new tests." I rattle, "Well, that's only my point of view of course. I'm only here for an internship."

"And we take your point of view in consideration too." T'Challa nods, "I suggest we follow Ms. Jones and wait a little longer, but I would like to start with the next series of tests the day after tomorrow."

We all agree with T'Challa as we also say our goodbyes to each other. I'm finally on my way back to the quarters when Faye stops me. She warmly smiles at me as my mom would do whenever she's proud of me. She does stand in as a second mom.

"So, what is going on between you and our test subject?" She smirks as she leads me to the science quarters' living room.

"What do you mean?" I lie.

Of course I know what she's talking about.

"You and Sergeant Barnes. First the hug when he came back, and then the romantic embrace this morning. You two must share something special. So, tell me everything."

"Well, I don't know actually. I feel at ease around him, and yes, we did have a really small fling just before he went under, but a romance between us could've never worked out."

"Oh, god. Just like star-crossed lovers."

I let out a small laugh, "You could say that."

"Now tell me more. Is he a good kisser?"

My laughter makes my stomach hurt as Faye just stays serious.

"I wasn't kidding though."

"He's very passionate." I answer her question, trying to steady my breath, "But I don't know if we would even try to rekindle things."

"Girl. The way he looks at you when you're doing something else, when you're doing something you're passionate about, it's like he's never seen anyone like you before."

I feel the heat travel to my cheeks as I cover them. It's the first time I've ever felt like this for someone, and believe it or not, I like this feeling. I shrug and my hand travel up to my hair, which has become long than I thought. I must've forgotten to pay attention to it.

"Look, he's totally adorable, even if he's an assassin. You can tell him, if he breaks your heart, I'll break both of his arms, and we all know one isn't that easy to fix."

I laugh as I give her a last hug before I make my way to my own wing. Nothing would make me happier than a nice and long slumber right next to him.

I almost hop back inside the living room as my eyes fall onto the one-armed man sitting cross-legged in front of the window.

"Where's Steve?" I ask as soon as I sit next to him.

"He went to bed." He absentmindedly says, "I didn't notice the beauty of these surroundings yesterday. No wonder you wanted to stay here."

I smile as I look at him, "It makes me remember my roots with the mutants. It looks a lot like the surroundings of the school I went to to master my powers."

I lean into him and rest my head onto his shoulder. My arms wrap around his arm as we both stare to the millions of stars you can see in the unpolluted sky.

"I want to take you out on a date, Addy." He whisper after a long silence, "Just like old times. I wanted to before I went under, but we both know we didn't have enough time for that. So, can I take you on a date?"

I smile widely even though he can't see it. A date with this guy? Any day, anytime.

"I'd love to."
