The wind rushes through my hair as I lean over the edge of the convertible's car door. The 80's music is blasting nonstop from the car speaker. I glance over to the driver, and I immediately smile.
I've missed these road trips with Sam.
"Are we there yet?" Peter, in the back, asks for the umpteenth time.
"Shut your mouth, Parker, or I swear to god you'll be dead before we get there." Sam snaps for the umpteenth minus one time.
Peter crawls back into his seat, and the feeling of embarrassment and slightly being scared is radiating of him, making me laugh.
We're only an hour away from our destination, and I am getting really curious of where we are heading to. We passed the New Hampshire sign ages ago, and we're not in Canada yet.
"I need an explanation, dude." I speak up.
"And you'll get one when we get there, Dee."
"And are we almost there?"
He sighs, "Yeah."
I lean back and stare at the picture in my left hand. It's the first picture of Team Cap, the only thing I took from my wall of pictures.
I don't get why we had to take Peter with us though. Nobody except Tony and I knew his alter ego, and he hasn't been threatened by the government yet. At least he's a good liar for telling his aunt that he has a field trip out of state.
Sam turns left all of the sudden and he starts driving fast on the dirt road. He somehow starts laughing really hard, like a mad man getting out of the mental institution.
"Dude. What's going on with you?" I ask frowning.
"Parker just slid from one side to the other." He laughs mockingly.
I slap his thigh, "Stop laughing with the kid. He still got to learn so much."
"He can learn with me laughing in the background." He glances at me, "Ain't that how I raised you?"
"Shut up."
"Oh, remember those times on the streets? You had so much to endure with me."
"Yeah, I still hate you for all the pranks."
"Oh, c'mon, Dee. You love me." He grins at me before diverting his eyes back to the road.
I follow his gaze as I see a house appear on the horizon. A small farmers house that resembles the one from Laura and Clint a lot, and it only makes me remember the trip Jacks and I made almost a year ago. My heart starts beating really fast, and I don't get why.
"Stop the car." I pant, "Sam, please!"
He pulls the brakes as both Peter and Sam look at me, concerned as hell. Meamwhile, I steady my breathing.
"What's going on, Dee?" He inquires while putting a hand on my thigh to calm me down.
"It's all because of Bucky." Peter buds in, "You see, she loves him, but somehow she can't get those three words over her lips. And they said goodbye on a bad note-"
"Shut up for a minute, Peter." I sigh, "I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" Sam asks.
"Yes! Now drive, please." I rub my eyes, "I need to see the family."
He lets out an amazing laugh before starting the engine again for the last few yards. He stops in front of the steps as the front door opens and we get out of the car.
"Addy!" Scott runs towards me and wraps his arms around me, "You cannot believe how much I missed you! I almost went crazy with these people."
"More the other way around." A voice speaks behind him as he starts letting me go.
I smile at Clint as he opens his arms for me to be invited in. I embrace him shortly while Steve greets me as well before the women attack me with hugs.
After all formalities, and introducing Peter as Spiderman to the team, we get in the farmhouse, yet I had still no clue to where Bucky is. Steve leads only me to the kitchen as he puts a nice cup of coffee in front of me. He knows I have questions. I can feel him grow more anxious by the minute.
"So, what is this place?" My first question fills the space.
"We call it 'the Barn'." He explains as I take a sip from my cup, "Buck owns it, it has been in his family for decades. And since we escaped the Raft, he gave permission to use it as a safehouse. The government doesn't know anything about this place, and if they got wind of it, Tony keeps it off the books."
"Tony?" I huff, "Really, Steve? You trust him blindly?"
He nods and I roll my eyes.
"When I was searching for Rebecca," he looks up at the sound of that name, but I ignore it, "I hacked into Friday, Tony's AI, to help my search. I happen to come across files with all our names on it." I sigh, "Steve, he knows everything about each one of us. Our smallest secrets, our dirtiest deeds. And you still trust him?"
I turn around, ready to walk out the kitchen through the back door, when Steve's voice stops me and reminds me of one last thing.
"Look, Addy. It's more complicated than-"
"Yeah, whatever." I wave him off, "Where is Bucky by the way?"
He sighs, "By the lake."
I shout a thank you to him as I start walking towards the lake, even though Steve had to redirect me because it was the other way.
My mind travels everywhere on my walk. From the first memories with the team to every fight I had in the field, to the man I love. It's time for me to try and put all the other things that are blocking my true feelings aside and just give everything to that man.
My eyes keep looking for a lake, which I thought was so big, yet it only looks like a glorified pond. Bucky is sitting on the smal pier that has no use for boats in any way, his feet dangling from the edge. I stop in my tracks as soon as I'm faced with his back a pier away.
"Hey, Buck." I call for his attention.
He immediately perks up and turns his upper body to face me. A smile grows on my face as I take in his enormously confused impression. I feel like there nothing stopping me anymore. He's right there, longing for me, yet holding back because of his feelings.
This is it.
"I love you."
