"What?" Bucky asks.
He must've heard the name.
"Nothing." I shrug, "I'll be right back. Don't worry."
I peck his cheek as he reluctantly lets go of me. I take one last look at the ghost I must've been seeing before I turn a soft left to the empty corridor only a few people really know about. The ghost knows, so I might meet him there.
I hide behind a corner as I catch my breath. This old wound has been healing for so long, only to be ripped open again after all these years.
"So, you thought I was just a figment of your imagination?" A voice echoes through the corridor, only to confirm what I didn't want to believe.
"C'mon, baby girl. Quit hiding and show yourself." The voice continues.
"Don't call me that." I hyperventilate as I reveal myself.
He looks quite the same as years ago, except his features have lined out more. His blue eyes pierce right through me while his evil smirk causes tears to form in the corners of my eyes.
"What? Baby girl?" He smirks, "But you liked it so much, darling."
"I am not your darling anymore, Mitch." I hiss at him, "How come you're not dead?"
"Oh, you would've wanted that, right? That I'm as dead as a doornail?"
"How is it even possible that you are alive?"
"Always check if there's a body at the bottom of the cliff you push them off." He winks and I start to feel nauseous.
"I didn't push you off."
"No, you just got yourself in trouble and we had to save you, which led to me falling off a cliff."
"Who even saved you?"
"Oh, that's a fun story." He recalls laughingly, "Do you remember the mutant the teachers shunned, Magneto? He saved me, and gave me a purpose in life."
I suddenly can't move anymore. As if something has taken over me and controls me now.
"Did you know that there is metal in your blood?" He grins wickedly.
"Imagine what I could do to your new boyfriend." He whispers as he comes closer, "There would a force greater than HYDRA controlling him, and he would remember everything vividly."
A tear escapes my eye as he whispers in my ear, "Or imagine what I can do with you. I know you've grown stronger, darling. Oh, the things I could do to you under this control."
I feel free again as he turns his back to me while continuing, "But I won't right now. It's your uncle's birthday after all. This isn't the last you've seen of me, baby girl. I will be back."
And with that he's gone. The already cold air suddenly feels inviting as I sink to my butt and let the tears stream down my face. I want to rip my hair out, I want to scratch my arms until they're bleeding, I want to scream.
But I don't.
Instead I focus on my breath and make sure I'll be able to walk out of here, on my own. From the moment I am able to stand up, I stumble to the back door.
The fresh air hits my body as I slump down on the stairs. I bury my head into my hands as I shake of being cold, but tears have stopped streaming and that's at least some reassurance.
I can't believe he's not dead. I am thinking, I have been mourning for so long, for a person who is alive and well. He can't be serious about all this, he can't be.
"Addy?" A distant voice pulls me out my thoughts, "Is everything alright?"
Knowing completely that my voice is not strong enough to answer confidently, I just shake my head. An arm sneaks around me as I lean into Bucky. His steady heartbeat calms me just enough to get out of the panic attack.
"Let's get you back to the apartment." He whispers and I nod.
He leads me around the embassy, into a car and away from the party.

I tiredly stumble into the apartment with Bucky on my heels. He keeps quiet, and I'm grateful for that, but I quite miss the sound of his voice.
"You know you can talk to me, right?" I quietly say, "The sound of your voice soothes me any time."
"But aren't you tired?" He inquires.
"I'm getting over it. It's not my first panic attack, Buck. I can handle it."
I enter my bedroom, fumbling the the zipper on the back. Like seriously. What do women have to endure even more?
"Hey, Buck?" I call him to the room, "Can you unzip me, please?"
His steps come closer until he stops right behind me. I feel his hands hover over the zipper while the air around us thickens. He touches the skin just above the zipper and it sends a shiver down my spine.
He slowly unzips me as the scar on my back reveals. I tense up when he traces the scar tissue with his metal hand. It's the first time I've kind of pulled away from his touch.
"It's from my very first fight in the field." I explain, but he silences me by pressing his lips onto the middle of the scar.
I slowly give in as I let my dress fall down to the ground. I know Bucky is checking me out. I can feel his desire from miles away.
He approaches me again, pulling my hair to one side so a part of my neck is exposed. I feel his lips onto the nipping skin while my breaths are getting shallower. I turn around and wrap my arms around his neck, playing with his hair as I press my lips onto his.
A lot happens while we're kissing. I unbutton his dress shirt, he pulls me up so I can wrap my legs around him, we end up laying on my bed.
This night has gone from the worst night of my life to the best night of my life. At least we used protection.
