Daithi POV:
"Hey, Tanner?" I asked my Madre.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Have you ever loved someone but they loved someone else?" I asked her.
She paused and sighed.
She nodded.
"How do you think I'm in this gang, Daithi?" she tried to smile.
I looked at her.
"I'm sorry."
She shook her head.
"No, he's happy. I'm happy. It could be worse." she smiled.
"In my case, it is." I told her, sighing.
"Luis." she said.
I nodded.
"I knew it." she smirked.
I grinned.
"But he was straight." I sighed.
She blinked.
"Somehow I knew he got hurt. Motherly instinct, I guess."
I nodded.
"Can I ask you a question?" I asked.
She nodded.
"Why are we even a group? I mean, we could be adults right now, having a life, a house, job, a family. But instead we're stuck here." I said.
She smiled.
"Daithi, there are two ways to live.
One: You're accepting of yourself and everyone around you, and vice versa, or Two," she sighed.
"You're a reject from society and you fight every day to live. We happened to be born with the bad end of the stick. We were miserable. But we would be damned if we would be alone," she grinned.
I grinned back.
"We found each other, one by one, and that's what made us happy again, if you can't have a life, you can at least have a family, right?" she smiled.
"That's true." I nodded.
"How'd you find us, Daithi?" she asked.
"Fell in love with my best friend, got rejected by my other love interest, then followed my best friend like a little puppy." I told her.
Her eyes looked sad.
"We were successful in our careers, but he wanted to be more powerful and noticed, I guess. He felt invisible. He's never hurt anyone though, he just wanted to have family. He didn't want money. He wanted to be seen. And I wanted the opposite, even though I never really cared for money." I sighed.
"I'm sorry." she said, patting my shoulder.
"No, it's okay. My life is probably better now. I do have you guys. All I had before was a wanting to change people's lives without being hated. Yet I wanted to be invisible." I chuckled.
"You've changed my life, sweetie, don't worry." Tanner said, hugging me.
I smiled.
"Thank you, Tanner." I said.
"You're welcome, honey."She called Z to find where they were.
"We're pretty close to them." she said.
I nodded.
"Daithi, listen to me." she said.
I looked at her.
"Someday, I'll make all your pain go away. Okay? You will be so happy. You'll change everyone's lives. You'll find your true love. And it will be as if you never remembered anything." she said.
I smirked.
"Yeah, I doubt that, Tanner."
She smiled.
"We'll rent a van and drive the rest of the way."Z POV:
Two things on my mind.
One: The Great Rebellion.
Two: Their lives.
This is going to sound cheesy.
But I don't want them to remember anything.
I didn't want them to even know there were assassins.
Suddenly, I started to get concerned.
What are they going to do after the rebellion? Lives were going to lost.
They'd see all of this.
David would remember Calibre being gone for the rest of his life.
Vanoss and Delirious?
What if one of them were lost?
And Tanner?
What about Tanner?
She's so gentle and motherly, what is she going to do after this, especially if some of her "children" die?
And what if we could change all this?
Keep them from remembering?
Ever since I joined them, I've noticed that they're happy. But they're miserable that they have to live like this. And I don't blame them.
They could have a life.
Then I paused.
Keep them from remembering.
Swiping their memory.
Didn't we have something like that?
Didn't we have a device?
After hearing what Tanner said to Daithi over the phone in my Bluetooth, I started to think.
Maybe I could make everything better.
Maybe Tanner could be happy, too.
I sighed.
I'll talk to her about this.
But not about the fact of swiping her memory.
"Hey, Z, where do you want to meet?" Tanner asked.
"You know where." I told her.
She sighed.
"Man, the old times."
I smiled.
"Yep."
I drove to the place where my second life began.
The Hillside Prairies.
