Chapter 34 ~ Utter Chaos

It was utter chaos.
I didn't get to say goodbye as the other gangs rose into view on the horizon.
Before they stepped forward, Tanner whispered to me.
"Make peace in any way possible. That's the final rule in being a lady."
She grinned. And I nodded.
I looked around me, and Tanner, Evan, and Jonathan stepped forward.
The leaders of the Phoenix's and ShadowBacks stepped forward.
One of the leaders, Marshall, bowed to Tanner out of courtesy.
She was a lady.
She smiled as they all bowed for her, and then for me.
It wasn't often you saw female assassins. It's a bit prejudiced, but it's true.
Females usually made peace, not started war.
Tanner saw it as if a lady's input was needed to stop Wars, and me, well, I'm just the one that likes to fight with the boys.
"Hello, fellow gangs." She politely said.
"Hello, Miss Tanner." Allen smiled and stepped a bit closer to her.
I almost lunged forward, my dagger in hand.
His smile grew as he looked behind her to see me.
"Little one. You seem mature. Join us." He demanded.
I opened my mouth in shock. I wasn't a Leader yet. I had no authority to join.

Evan opened his mouth, but Allen looked at him.
"I have no authority." I said.
"Join us anyway. Obviously you are the Protector of this young woman. In my view of it, you seem to be her partner." He grinned, happily.
I opened my mouth widely, my face growing the brightest red I could imagine.
Tanner seemed to get an idea.
"Indeed, she is."
I grew even hotter.
Tanner! WHAT THE-!
But Evan sighed and motioned me forward. I didn't put my dagger away as I went to stand by my best friend, or "Partner."
Why had she'd called me that?
And then she grabbed my hand.

My pulse started racing, my heart beating so fast that I could barely get my lungs to keep up with it.
Then I suddenly knew why Tanner wanted me so close. She wanted to spend these last few moments together.
I didn't have to turn around to hear Lui laughing at me.
Perhaps my nervousness was showing on my face.
Allen didn't seem to notice, however.
"So, Miss Tanner. I apologize for being so rude in the presence of a lady. However, your gang has in-"
Allen politely said, but was interrupted.
"Why the hell are you talking to her. She isn't a Leader's spouse nor a leader." Evan growled.
Delirious stepped on his foot and he winced.
"I apologize for Mr. Evan's rude statement." Delirious said.
"Please, do continue."
Allen smiled at him and turned back to Tanner.
"The flag has burned down. That flag symbolizes peace, does it not?" He asked a bit more firmly.
"Yes it does." I mumbled beside Tanner.
"Quiet you. You aren't a Leader either." Marshall sneered.
I snickered. "I burnt down the flag, you imbecile."
He growled and stepped closer to Tanner.
I flung out my crossbow and aimed it at his chest, taking a protective position near Tanner.
The soldiers all took out their bows and guns and aimed them t my chest, me hearing a quick draw of breath from Calibre behind me.
Sorry, Lui. We won't be together after this anyway.

Our soldiers then took out their weapons and pointed at Marshall.
"Hold your weapons!" Evan shouted.
The men behind me lowered their weapons.
Then Marshall's side did, too.
In the distance, I saw a head of green hair, and I growled, knowing it was Jack.
I soon spotted Mark and Ken too. Ohm shuffled his feet.
I knew this would suck for him. He'd be killing his own friends.
"You burnt down the flag?" Allen questioned.
I nodded, not lowering my crossbow.
I would put my life on end to keep him from touching Tanner.
"Who do you think you are?" He growled.
"My name is Z, Allen." I snapped back.
Everyone on the other side gasped.
"YOU'RE Z?" He grinned.
I was all of a sudden confused.
"You're the youngest assassin on the highest rank possible. We've heard so much about you." He laughed, happily.
"Thanks." I sneered still.
He reached towards me this time, and I swung at his hand with a dagger in my pocket.
The soldiers behind him growled again.
"Do not  touch her." Tanner hissed.
He looked up to Tanner.
"Tanner, I've never heard you snap like that..." He stepped back, astonished.
"I apologize for Allen, he simply has no sense of personal space." Marshall bowed.
I nodded, keeping eyes on Tanner.
"I accept your apologies, but please do not touch my Partner." I forced the word out from my mouth.
Allen hesitated, but he nodded once.
"So, let's get to business." He said.
Evan nodded.
"Now, the Banana Bus Crew shall be referred to as Indian Givers. Someone who gives something, such as trust, and  takes it back with no remorse nor regret.
Now, the rules are simple to the rebels. You have three choices. One, you give us your land. Two, you give us your gang members and join us. Or three, we fight the Great War."
He said calmly.
"We shall never do the first two." Evan spit.
Allen bowed.
"Ah, I see. That's how it shall be."
He sighed and took off his ring. Evan took off one that looked exactly like it.
"Now, my dear children," Allen spoke, everyone's eyes on him.
Regardless of our group being three or four gangs larger, he had to make the speech about Warfare.
The rebellious ones were outcast, not to be spoken to.
"If Evan, Vanoss shall dig a hole in the middle of the boundaries," Allen stepped right on the line.
"And if he shall plant the ring, then he will be considered Rebellious. Then I plant my ring on top of his, and we fight until one of us is left standing."
He sighed.
"Last chance, Evan. I didn't want it to come to this. You have such a lovely husband after all. Maybe you could be a better man for him this time." Allen snickered.
Something then changed in my Leader's eyes.

Evan rushed forward, inches away from Allen, and stopped to kick up dirt onto his shoes.
He dropped the ring and kicked more dirt.

Allen grinned evilly and dropped his ring, too, then taking his fingers to mimic a fake gun.
He pointed it at Evan's head.
Bang. He mouthed.

I growled and he laughed, then motioned for everyone to back up.

We rejoined the gangs and backed up, facing every one now directly in front of us, ready to charge.

"One," Evan whispered.

"I love you." I whispered to Tanner, grabbing her hand.

"Two," Evan mumbled louder.

It was so slow as it came from her lips.

"I love you, too."

"Three."

Tears stung my cheeks as we rushed forward to our enemies.
