A few days later, we all sat in the dugout of the sandlot, and my situation hasn't gotten any less confusing.
I stood in the outfield, hitting my fist in my mitt as I watched Danny hit.
The ball came hurling towards me towards the back of the field. I ran back and caught the ball, throwing it to second base.
"Wow, you're pretty good," I heard a voice say, making me jump and turn around.
In the entrance of the fence that surrounded the baseball field, a boy stood who had brown hair and bright green eyes, and a smile that made me stutter.
"Uh-um well thank you," I muttered, "who are you?"
He gave a small laugh, "I'm Connor. I just moved here today and found this place."
"Oh well I'm Olivia. Call me Ollie," I said, sticking my hand out for him to shake.
"Nice to meet you Ollie," he said, giving me that gorgeous smile again.
"You play baseball?" I asked him.
"A little bit, yeah," he said with a shrug.
"You wanna play with us?" I asked him.
"Sure," he shrugged and I brought him to where the rest of the guys were.
They all came towards us and i introduced us all.
"Connor, this is Paige, Danny, Karson, Kris, Caden, Xavier, and Andrew," Andrew spit on the ground when I introduced his name and I saw him glaring at Connor slightly, "guys, this is Connor. He's gonna play with us."
They all shrugged, while Andrew just turned around and went to his spot.
We let Connor be in the outfield with Andrew and me and he was pretty good, actually, he was super good.
I watched in awe as he caught every ball and threw it back flawlessly.
"Jesus Christ, he's good!" I exclaimed, glancing at Andrew.
He only watched me for a second then turned back towards the ground.
After the day was over, we all began walking home.
"So do you live close to here?" I asked him, grabbing my mitt and preparing to leave.
"Yeah, I live on Sycamore," he said with a smile.
"Really?" I asked, surprised, "me too!"
We smiled at each other.
"Walk home together?" I asked him with a smile.
"Sure," he shrugged.
As we began home, I realized he lives a few houses down from where I did.
"See ya later, Connor!" I said, giving him a wave as we smiled at each other.
"Goodnight, Ollie."
I sighed dreamily as I turned back around and went to my house. As I walked by Kris and Andrews house, I saw Andrew walking to his door by himself, staring at the ground.
"Andrew," I mumbled, my voice sounding strange in the quiet of the night.
He turned around, his hair messy and looking like he's been running his hand through it.
"Yeah?" He mumbled, his hands limply falling by his sides.
"Are you okay?" I asked quietly.
"Uh huh," he muttered, turning back around.
"See you at the carnival!" I called to him.
"Yeah, guess I'll see you there," he said, barely audibly.
He walked into his house and the front door shut, silence engulfing me.
I walked home questioning everything. Why was I acting like an idiot with Connor now too? It seems like I'm liking everybody these days.
I sighed and walked into my room, my mind full of thoughts.
That next day, I walked slowly to the baseball field. I had planned to walk by myself today, since I assumed everyone else had already left.
I arrived and everyone had already begun playing. I moved to my spot and glanced at Connor. Right before he batted he glanced at me and smiled. I smiled back and wondered what I was getting myself into.
